RE: How about a roster call?

Phil,

Nice to hear you have mellowed!!! Maybe I will start reading these
emails again.

To all:
It's nice to see the diversity we have on this list serve. I am glad so
many women and men enjoy and take part in women's/girls' hockey.

I have been playing hockey for 3/4 of my life and can't seem to shake
the habit of it. Hockey is my yoga. Some people mediate, I play hockey.
It alleviates the stress and I can't really think of a better way to
spend my time, well other than sleeping. Anyone who has played in a
men's league knows what I mean. 10:30pm ice slots and all.

Peace,
Tina Sevastakis

Subject: Re: How about a roster call?

Years ago I was a loudmouth on here, especially when it related to the
management of the Canadian National Women's Team and the ongoing rivalry
with the USA around the time of the Nagano Olympics. I recall being
chastised on several occasions by Admin.

Time passes. We get older and more mellow. The Canada/USA rivalry has
cooled off somewhat and both programs are showcasing the increased
skill, strength and speed of the "new breed" that followed the Angela
James/France St.
Louis/Cammi Granato era. Every year when watching the Worlds, I'm amazed
at how much faster everyone skates, the shots are noticeably
harder...great entertainment. At least the top two teams in the
world...the others are also making steps, but the North Americans keep
pulling away from the pack (except for when Sweden plays the USA in the
Olympics - ha ha).

My wife's chronic knee problems have pretty much put paid to her rec
hockey career with the Victoria Stingers, but the women's game continues
to be strong locally - though it's more recreational than "AA".

But every so often, I get the urge to dig out the VHS tape of "The Game
of Her Life" (one of the best docs ever, in my opinion) and marvel at
the Machiavellian techniques of Shannon Miller.

Just for old times' sake :)
