My team went to this 2 years ago, all the way from California, and had a
blast! The teams are evenly matched so there weren't many, if any,
blow-outs.

The Northern California Women's Hockey League (NCWHL) is once again
sponsoring its popular "Give Hockey A Try Day" where women are encouraged to
come out and try the fun sport of ice hockey. Women need no previous
experience and will be able to register for the league's beginner division
after the session if they so choose. Hockey skates are required and are
available at the rink. Women currently playing in the NCWHL will provide
all other equipment, including helmets, and also plenty of guidance and
encouragement. The cost for the session will be $12. Reservations are
strongly advised in order to guarantee a place.

The session will be held on Saturday, January 27th at 6:15 p.m. at the
Belmont Iceland. Participants will be on the ice from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. but
are asked to arrive no later 5:45 p.m. for registration and orientation.
Belmont Iceland (650-592-0532) is at 815 Old County Road in Belmont, just
north of Ralston Avenue. Take US-101 on the S.F. Peninsula to the Ralston
Avenue exit in Belmont. Go west about 1/2 mile to Old County Road, just
before the railroad track underpass. Turn right at the Wendy's and go north
on Old County Road about two blocks. The rink is on the right.

For more information or to reserve a spot please call: 415-437-1927 or
e-mail Betsy Risch at email@hidden.

The NCWHL is a recreational women's ice hockey league, which plays in the
San Francisco Bay Area. It has 4 divisions (beginner/recreational,
intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced) and is currently recruiting
at all levels for the Summer 2001 season.

Thanks to all the people who emailed with suggestions and offers of help to
get a women's training video for my girl's clinic. I really appreciate the
way members of this List help either other out!

I ordered the Digit Murphy video and the women's College Hockey Guide via
phone from http://www.hockeybookstore.com. yesterday morning and they got
here this afternoon. Greatest service and very knowledgeable! When I called,
I talked to Tom Keegan, who gave me an honest assessment that the tape is well
done, but very basic; for a rather younger crowd that I'm hosting at the
clinic.
Unfortunately, he was right on target. I'm going to show it anyway because
the demonstrators are college players and obviously very good. At the end of
the tape they talk about growing up playing hockey with boys, which I'm sure
the girls will enjoy.
I would recommend this tape for the beginner coach, or a coach teaching
beginners, as well as for organizations who want something to show to
nonplaying girls as a sort of hockey recruiting tape.
