So it sounds to me as if before trying to put together this tournament team,
you hadn't already been involved with USA Hockey registration of teams and
players. Does somebody else do this work now for the teams you're involved
with? Probably the best way to learn how to do that paperwork right is to find
somebody local who's done it before, who can go over it with you before you
start filling it out and can check it before you send it in.

>Now I know the paperwork is a must and I REALLY do know that

It is cumbersome, but there are other spread-out teams who do it.

>Wouldnt be

That's an interesting idea. I haven't heard that one before.

A nuisance Louise? It sounds more then a little

Have you talked to the Girls'/Women's Section rep for your area? Perhaps
she/he would be more willing to help you than the registrar and sub-registrar,
who deal with large numbers of boys' teams and don't have time to help new
people. She/he might also be able to give you contact names for the people who
do this paperwork for other female teams in your area, and you might get some
help from those people.

Are the teams you're talking about really USA Hockey registered teams? If your
teams are not members of USA Hockey, you certainly can't complain about the USA
Hockey qualifications of your referees. In some places (we encountered this in
Michigan), certified referees will refuse to officiate games with an
non-registered team, because they know their own USA Hockey insurance is
invalid for such a game.

>The comments I hear make me so mad I have to run out and scream!
>The best ones we have heard? " Do you girls all shower together at the end of
>the game? " Your cute,do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend? " What are you
>doing after the game?" And the best one.." You girls dont belong on the
>ice,it just isnt your sport"

That is appalling. Who books your referees? If you're letting a local
refereeing association do it for you, then you should be reporting those
comments in writing every single time and insisting on not having those
officials work your games. If that doesn't help, then I recommend you begin
booking referees directly without going through the association.

Louise,
off to hockey now ...

GOPHERS SWEEP WILDCATS WITH 3-1 VICTORY

DURHAM, N.H. - Minnesota goalie Erica Killewald turned in a 29-save
performance and the third-ranked Gophers had to hold on after a pair of late
penalties as they defeated ninth-ranked New Hampshire 3-1 to complete a
two-game sweep of the Wildcats.

For the second consecutive game, the teams skated through a scoreless first
period but Minnesota got on the board one minute, 50 seconds into the second
period when Tracy Engstrom worked the puck loose in the right corner. Kris
Scholz picked the puck up behind the Wildcat goal, came out the left side
and beat goalie Jen Huggon with a wrist shot.

The margin went to 2-0 at 11:04 of the period when Emily Buchholz came out
from behind her own net with the puck and hit La Toya Clarke in stride at
the red line. From their, the Gophers' leading scorer skated in alone, deked
Huggon to the ice and moved to her forehand for the goal.

Minnesota extended the lead to 3-0 when Nadine Muzerall ended a seven-game
goal-scoring drought with a power-play tally at 11:06 of the final period.

Killewald looked to have the shutout in hand until a hooking call on Tracy
Engstrom with 37 seconds to play put New Hampshire on the power play. Kira
Misikowetz won the ensuing faceoff to Michelle Thornton at the right point
and then knocked in Thornton's reboud six seconds later.

Courtney Kennedy was called for slashing as the goal was scored and the
Gophers had to kill another power play for the final 31 seconds to finish
off the win.
