Hi,

I just saw a copy of a comedy routine called "Joan of Montreal" (I think) that
was taped off the Comedy channel in Canada. It was great and I highly
recommend it to anyone in Canada to watch. Lots of tongue in check comedy but
still had a great message for girls. It is about a girl growing up in Baie
Comeau and wanting to play hockey. I nearly rolled off the couch during the
ringette talk as I having played the sport felt the exact same way!

If anyone in the States happens ot see it on their Comedy channel you should
check it out as well but I am not sure you will get the belly laughs that
Canucks would.

Just a recommendation,

Tanya, #35

In reply to all you have RANTED against me..LOL..When my girlfriend and I
first thought about doing this, getting other girls together to attend
tournaments,it was done with good intentions. At first it was done due to the
lack of interest. But we did know other people who had done it and it seemed
possible. Now my first contact was with someone who knew about doing this and
put me in touch with a former local team rep who knew more. She told us you
cant just put together a team and go,there are certain rules you have to
follow. We were told to call our local registrar for more info.Well we couldnt
find out how to contact her,so we called USA hockey to find out more. After 3
days of trying I finally got through to someone and told them what we wanted
to do and was questioned why would we want to do this.As I explained it she
told us she would send me the paperwork that needed to be filled out,I
explained that I knew nothing about this so she said I will give you the name
of our local regstrar to help us out. After almost a week the phone call came
with her name and number so I called. After several attempts I finally did get
to talk to someone and was told that she was out of town and would get back
to me.After several more days of waiting and more numerous attempts I finally
did get a hold of her.As I explained what we wanted to do,again I was
questioned as why would want to do this.I was getting kinda tired of
explaining it but told her anyway. She then told me she would get the
paperwork together and leave it a drop box and told us it was pretty simple
to understand and fill out.Well for someone who has never done this it
wasnt, and any attempts to contact her was met with a lot of problems.Their is
no contact number for her only a work number and you cant call her at
work. The note on the drop reads as follows: Your paperwork must be in proper
order,if it is not i will not contact you.I will not correct your
mistakes. All paperwork must be placed in drop box.Now for someone who has
never done this, doesnt sound like a harsh way to deal with someone who is
looking for help? She will not contact you when you paperwork is done? How do
you know if and when it is done? How will you know if you paperwork has even
made it to USA hockey? When i looked at the paperwork it was quite alot to
undertake. You must realize that the team we had put together was with several
girls from several states. Now tell me how you go about having these girls
sign a roster when the live in other states?Mail it to them? Let see,$ 2.15
for everytime i mail it,plus return mailing for it to get back to us plus the
wait...lets see..3 days out,hopefully 3 days back times 11 girls in seven
states..thats going to be a small fortune and we were hoping we made it it
time to go to the tournament! That paperwork must be in USA Hockey before we
even can skate. Now I know the paperwork is a must and I REALLY do know that
it protects everyone, but tell me how we could do all of that and find time to
have fun playing hockey? Lets say we use different girls for different
tournaments,we have to send out this roster with all the other paperwork and
have them sign it and hope it doesnt get lost on its return to us and we have
to start all over again and find time to make it to a tournament?Wouldnt be
easier just to have a computer at tournaments and registar right there and
then and pay your money if you not signed with USA hockey and fill out all of
that paperwork ?A nuisance Louise? It sounds more then a little
nuisanse.Contact local commitees and make a difference? I called the top 4
people on the local Committees and still haven heard back, and its been almost
2 weeks.I am not knocking this system and i know it helps, but it sure seems
like alot. Just a note about qualified referees. I dont know who qualifies
these refs, but they need to take a LONG look at most of them.At games we seem
to get some of the MOST stupid, and i mean thoughtless ones, at our games and
tournaments. The comments I hear make me so mad I have to run out and scream!
The best ones we have heard? " Do you girls all shower together at the end of
the game? " Your cute,do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend? " What are you
doing after the game?" And the best one.." You girls dont belong on the
ice,it just isnt your sport"Now I KNOW i have stirred up quite a pot here, but
this is just we have run into trying to do this.I was also just informed that
you can register doing it with a disc from USA hockey, but no one we have
tried to contact knows how to get the disc.PLEASE dont tell me to call my
local registrar,I was told by someone who asked her about this, she said she
does it without electronic registration.O.K. people, i am ready for your
comments..LOL..FIRE AWAY....!!!!!!!!

GOPHERS EKE OUT ROAD WIN OVER WILDCATS

DURHAM, N.H. Minnesota took two penalties in the games final two minutes
but still managed to hold on for a 2-1 win over New Hampshire.

With the Gophers leading 2-0, Laura Slominski was called for hooking at 18
minutes, 10 seconds of the final period and Courtney Kennedy took a
cross-checking penalty 36 seconds later.

The Wildcats pulled goalie Jen Huggon for a 6-on-3 advantage and scored with
49 seconds to play when Kristen Thomas shot from the left point found its
way through traffic and into the Minnesota net. However, with Huggon pulled
again, the hosts could not get the equalizer during a 6-on-4 advantage.

Minnesota got on the board after a scoreless first period, when La Toya
Clarke took a pass from Ambria Thomas in the right circle and beat Huggon
with a wrist shot through traffic at 9:05 of the second period on the power
play.

The Gophers made it 2-0 when Slominskis pass fround Nadine Muzerall in the
neutral zone and she broke into the zone on a 2-on-1 with Tracy Palinsky.
Muzeralls initial shot was blocked but Palinsky tapped home the rebound for
the eventual game-winning goal.

After outshooting New Hampshire 19-9 through the first two periods,
Minnesota was outshot 12-6 in the final period. Erica Killewald had 20 saves
for the Gophers while Huggon finished with 23 for the Wildcats.
