The bust on women's shoulders pads are in a different place than mine - maybe they're made for younger women? It made me nervous looking down and seeing them so close to my chin! Trying equipment on is the best way - and move around in it a bit. Look at friends' equipment, ask them how it's working for them, what would be better, try their stuff on.

Why does rollerblading lead to bad form?

Hi everyone,

I went to Lake Placid last weekend to see the US women play and thought I'd
tell y'all about it. Please keep in mind that I'm from Atlanta and we don't
get much women's hockey down here, so the whole experience was totally new.

First of all, I thought they were going to be playing some poor club team
from Calgary, the Oval Extreme. I couldn't have been more wrong. Hayley
Wickenheiser, Cassie Campbell and Judy Diduck were on the team, and Danielle
Goyette was on the roster, but wasn't there. What a treat to get to see
Wickenheiser (and pretty much by accident. It's not like I chose this weekend
because I knew she'd be there).

The USA beat the Extreme 8-1 on Friday night, and it was fun to see a bunch
of goals scored. I don't know who scored or when, because the whole thing
went by so quickly. So much to take in and no instant replay. I was amazed by
how fast both teams were (although I was concentrating on watching the US).
It was quite something to see, and it really put into perspective the lack of
hustle my team displays. Something else which left an impression was just how
smooth the skating was. All I wanted to do after the game was get on the ice
and practice.

Saturday's game was a battle which ended 1-1 on goals by Alana Blahoski (the
quickest skater I have ever seen. Why her nickname isn't "Crazy Legs" I don't
know) and Corrine Swirsky. This obviously was a much tighter game with better
goalkeeping by the Extreme. Unfortunately, Brandy Fisher was injured (knee, I
think) and if anyone has more info on this, please post it.

Afterwards I was able to get a few autographs from the players and also had a
nice conversation with Erin Magee's mom. Disney on Ice was in town that
weekend which relegated the women's teams to the 1932 rink. It also meant
that their lockerrooms were downstairs (or something), so after both games
you'd see the US players walking in full gear, minus skates, through the
lobby area. Bad for them, good for me. Cammi Granato went by and I was
speechless. I managed to babble some coherent sentences to Katie King, Julie
Cho (an extremely nice person), Sarah Tueting, Tricia Dunn, Sue Merz, Erin
Magee and Karyn Bye. They were all gracious with their time.

So despite the fact that it was 6 degrees on Sunday and that my ears haven't
defrosted yet, I had a great weekend. I hope like hell they come down this
way sometime because I can't wait to see them play again. They were truly
exciting, amazing and inspirational.

That's my story...

Since the brochures have started appearing in the mailbox already I wondered
if any of you would like to share your opinions of summer hockey camps. I am
especially interested in those for the more advanced player who, hopefully,
will be playing US college hockey in the next year or two. Am looking for
comments in particular about the camps at Princeton, Cornell, Providence,
Niagara, and is there still one at Bowdoin? Have any of you attended any of
these and what was the total value of the experience? My daughter really
liked Kush's Elite training camp in Colorado and disliked the camp at
Dartmouth. Thanks, Kit

I also wish that the US Women's team would come to places like, California. Even
if they went to San Francisco or even Las Vegas, Nevada. That is close enough to
buy a plane ticket to.

I have been very tempted to see them when they play but, I can't justify a $400
or $500 ticket.

I think that actually Las Vegas would be a great place because then a lot of
people from the West could afford to attend.

Maybe someone else can answer this more technically, but from what I have heard (and experianced) it is a blance thing. When you are on ice skates you are more on your toes, on rollerblades you are more on your heels. It takes awhile at the begining of the season to get used to the weight shift again.

That's what I was told when I first started ice hockey.

But also, before this season I was rollerblading to class for a couple weeks, and when I started the ice hockey season, I was high kicking, which I think was a direct result from the rollerblading.
