U.C.S.D. does have a men's club team. They play against Cal State
Northridge, Cal Tech and Pepperdine, whatever league that is. A girl on
my team attends Pepperdine and played there atleast her first year. She
was able to keep up with them and I would say she is a high C level
player. It is checking of course.

I agree with other responses in that college is not for playing hockey,
it's for setting up a solid base for you to create a career for
yourself. Don't waste your tuition money just to play hockey. pick the
school based on whatever one has the best to offer you academically.

I am a graduate of U.C.S.D. and it was a wonderful school. And, there is
an ice rink 2 miles from campus. With adult leagues that you can play in
recreationally.

Susan:

Everybody that says put the academics consideration first is giving you real
good advice. If you made a list of the ten most prominent persons in your life
right now, and made the same list a year from now, you would find maybe a
single, or two persons on both lists. Your life is about to totally change
that much. Bertrand Russell (not much of a hockey player I guess, but a good
guy for life philosophy) once noted that: "The best decisions give you the
most options at the end of the decidion period." Where you go, get a degree,
and do what with thereafter should leave you the most optional possibilities
possible.

Having said that...Southern California is the most prominent place to play
roller hockey in the entire civilized world. It constantly amazes me the bias
and prejudice that ice hockey players (hey, some of my best friend are ice
hockey players) have against wheels. Does everybody think that inline play is
some how a "second class" sport? Maybe we need to talk about this. Susan, I
would certainly encourage you to perhaps go try-out for the L.A. Riot,
although I think they are the Tour Riot at this point. They are mostly SoCal
women like yourself, and about your age even. They have come in second at the
USA Nationals and the NARCh nationals, only to teams like Easton and the
Toronto Typhoon, each of whom have olympians and such. Manon Rheaume certainly
goes back and forth between wheels and ice blades well enough to play at the
highest level on each. Give inline a try, and USC might have several great
opportunities. If they don't have a club team, they certainly could, and
(besides whatever paper process the school might require) the only thing you
would have to do to get started there is put up an organizing notice on some
bulletin board. Quality players will probably come from everywhere. Good luck,
and have fun out there, either way.

If anyone taped the final game, either from TSN or Oxygen TV, and is
interested in making a copy for me, please write and let's discuss a
price. I have games on tape dating back to 1992 ('92 Finland-'94 Lake
Placid- '97 Kitchener, '99 Sweden- '00 Mississauga- WWHC Final Games,
various 3 Nations Games, TSN Challenge Games, and 98 Olympic Coverage)
and would be willing to trade 'whatever' for a copy of this years final.

If anyone can help me out, please e-mail!

Wow! I can't believe all the responses I got about
where to go. I'm really glad people took the time to
raise good points. I feel a lot better with more
information from people i trust =) It's cool to think
how much i've learned from being on this list so long
(3 years?) Well i haven't decided where to go yet but
i will be visiting around some next week..
thanks!
