Hi, David. This posting came out just fine on the women-in-hockey mailing
list. I'm responding to the list as well as privately to you.

I am not to sure on how to go about this,as this is the first time we

Brampton is an Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA) sanctioned
tournament. So there are a few things that you neglected to mention:
You will register this team with USA Hockey, and you will need the original
signatures of all players on your roster form.
It is possible to be registered on more than one USA Hockey team at once, but I
don't know whether this rule varies for teams which compete in US Nationals.
Any players you add should already be registered with USA Hockey this season,
or will need to pay their USA Hockey registration fee through you (probably on
top of your $35US fee) and sign a USA Hockey individual registration form (is
it called IPR? ITR? something like that.)
It is not possible for a player already registered on an OWHA team this season
to register on your team as well. It is possible for a player living in
Ontario who is not registered on an OWHA team to sign a USA Hockey roster and
play for that team in Brampton. I have no idea of the regulations for players
living in other Canadian provinces.
You will also take care of applying for the Travel Sanction for the team.
Teams registered with USA Hockey which compete in Canada are required by an
agreement between the two governing bodies to wear the same protective
equipment in Canada that they are required to wear at home. (You do not need
to wear throat protectors, although your Canadian opponents do.) It sometimes
makes things simpler for your bench staff to carry a copy of the agreement, to
show to the occasional referee who doesn't know about it.
You will take advice from some person familiar with current Ontario
categorizing standards before identifying which division you want to enter.
You will also provide honest information about your team to the tournament
organizers so that they can place you appropriately.

If all of this is not already familiar to you, you should be consulting with
USA Hockey officials in your area (such as the District Sub-Registrar and
Girls/Womens director for your area).

Good luck,

Louise
