I know that it was in the USA hockey catalogue last Christmas. They
probably still have it.

First, Title IX doesn't say that the teams for men and
women have to be the same. It also doesn't say that if a
women's team is unavailble a female must be allowed to try
out for a men's team (or the other way around). It merely
says that the number of men's teams and women's sports have
to be funded roughly equally. This usually means that the
number of teams available for each are close to equal
(a men's and a women's track team, a baseball team and a
softball team, a men's ice hockey team and a women's field
hockey team, etc). The school is probably not in violation
of title IX.
Second, you may want to get in touch with me
(email@hidden) or Libby Pettibone
(email@hidden). Libby is working on starting a
women's club team at the University of Virginia, I helped
her find players, and the men's club team is helping to
write the constitution and budget....probably so that Libby
and I won't try out for their team.
As for you playing on the men's team, I wouldn't hold my
breath. Hofstra University has a men's team and no women's
team. When I was there as an undergrad, I tried out for
the team. I was one of 6 goalies to try out. Since 4 of
the others had no experience, I was clearly the #2 goalie.
The coach chose to not have a backup goaltender rather than
put me on the team (or practice squad).

Rockering is different than the body balance thing I had done. I tried
getting them "just" rockered and it wasn't the same. I may have been
misleading in my post in equating the two.

Yeah, I know - I asked about this last year, but no one from the numbers I
called followed up with me, so I'm asking again.

Does anyone know who to contact regarding the stop signs for the back of the
jerseys? Are they sew-ons or screened?

Thanks,
Dawn

MUZERALL, KILLEWALD STAR IN GOPHERS' WIN OVER HUSKIES

BOSTON, Mass.-Nadine Muzerall scored two goals and set up a third and Erica
Killewald stopped 26 shots as fifth-ranked Minnesota defeated fourth-ranked
Northeastern 3-1.

Despite the Huskies' 12-3 advantage in shots on goal during the first
period, the Gophers grabbed a 1-0 lead when Muzerall and Shannon Kennedy
hooked up with 4:49 to play. The duo broke into the Northeastern zone 2-on-1
and Kennedy gave the puck to Muzerall before cutting to the net, taking the
return pass and deflecting it past Erica Silva.

"That was a big goal for us to get," said Minnesota coach Laura Halldorson.
"They had dominated us territorially but we converted when we got the
opportunity."

Northeastern dominated much of the second period and had limited the Gophers
to just five shots through the opening 35 minutes. However, penalties to
Jennie Setaro, at 15:59, and Erine Metcalf, at 17:33, gave Minnesota
back-to-back power plays on which they recorded seven shots and gained
momentum heading into the third period.

Just 1:16 into the final period the Gophers went up 2-0 when Muzerall took a
pass from Tracy Engstrom to the right of the crease and scored on a second
shot after Silva thwarted her first attempt.

Northeastern got back to within a goal when Hilary Witt scored on the power
play less than three minutes later but Minnesota managed to hold off its
hosts until Muzerall scored into an empty net with 13 seconds to play.

Killewald stopped 26 of 27 shots for the third consecutive game. Her
efforts, especially during the game's first 35 minutes when the Gophers were
outshot 20-5, allowed Minnesota to keep the Huskies at bay.

"Erica was the star of the game in my mind," Halldorson said. "She shut them
down early when the game could have gone either way. She brought her 'A'
game today."

The two teams meet again Saturday in the series finale beginning at 7 p.m.
EDT.

POWER-PLAY GOALS DOOM GOPHER WOMEN IN LOSS TO NORTHEASTERN

BOSTON, Mass.-Northeastern scored three power-play goals, including two
early in the third period to break a 1-1 deadlock en route to a 3-1 victory
and a split of its weekend series at Matthews Arena with Minnesota.

The Huskies dominated the Gophers early outshooting them 12-0 through the
first 18 minutes of the game. Frosh Michelle Lorion's first career goal, was
scored on the power play at 8:33 to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Minnesota's lone goal came less than two minutes into the second period when
Ambria Thomas knocked the puck away from Northeastern goalie Erica Silva and
banked a shot in off a Husky player to tie the score.

Colleen Coen put Northeastern ahead to stay with a power-play goal at 6:57
of the final period and Brooke Whitney scored twice after that to finish the
scoring.

Erica Killewald kept the Gophers in the game by stopping 31 of 35 shots. It
was the first time since Jan. 16, a span of 17 games, that she had allowed
more than three goals in a game. Silva had 19 saves for Northeastern.

Following five consecutive games on the road, Minnesota returns home, Nov.
5, to face third-ranked Brown at 7:05 p.m. at Mariucci Arena.
