Women*s Hockey Drops Series To No. 3 Minnesota

Madison, Wis. - Wisconsin (7-6-1, 5-4-1 WCHA) allowed three power-play goals and was shutout for the first time this season as it fell to the Minnesota (9-3-0, 6-0-0 WCHA) 5-0 at the Dane County Coliseum Saturday.

Winny Brodt got Minnesota on the board 59 seconds into the contest. The goal was the first point in a four-point night for the junior. Brodt got her second point at 8:38 when she set up Nadine Muzerall to make the score 2-0.

The score remained the same until the second period when Michelle Sikich (Apple Valley, Minn.) was called for interference. The Gophers capitalized and made the score 3-0 when Ronda Curtin one-timed a pass from Ambria Thomas past Badger goaltender Jackie MacMillan (Buffalo, Minn.).

Nadine Muzerall beat the horn with a power-play tally at 19:59 of the second to make it 4-0. Muzerall worked a two-on-one down low with Tracy Engstrom before finding the net.

Ambria Thomas closed out the scoring with her tenth goal of the year, and fourth of the weekend, on the power play. With the goal, Minnesota finished 3-for-4 with the player advantage.

*They really showed the team that they are,* said Head Coach Julie Sasner. *They skated really well, and I thought they were awesome on the special teams. I think they can play with any team in the country.*

MacMillan made 25 saves through two periods before giving way to Jennifer Neary (Dallas, Texas), who stopped one of the two shots the Badgers faced in the final stanza. Crystal Nicholas earned the shutout with 13 saves.

*The biggest difference between last night*s and tonight*s game was the way Minnesota played,* said Sasner. * I think they played really well tonight. Their goaltending was strong and they have a tremendous amount of depth. Individually, and as a team, I thought they outmatched us tonight.*

The Badgers look to return to the winning track on Saturday, Nov. 27 at the Princeton Thanksgiving Tournament when the face tourney-host and ninth-ranked Princeton at 4 p.m., CST. Wisconsin takes on Yale on Sunday, Nov. 28 at 11:30 a.m., CST.

*I*m really pleased with the weekend,* said Head Coach Julie Sasner. *I think our team played well. We played hard. When we played five-on-five we battled them pretty even. Yesterday*s game was a tie game five-on-five and today*s game was a 2-0 game five-on-five.*
