10th-Ranked Women's Hockey Beats Bemidji State

	Eau Claire, Wis. - A two-goal outburst in a 28-second span
during the
third period propelled the Wisconsin women's ice hockey team to a 3-1
win over
Bemidji State on Sunday.
The Badgers took a 1-0 lead after a scoreless first period.
Kelly Kegley
(Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) scored her fifth of the season, on the
power play,
at 4:33 of the second. Kegley found the rebound of a Sis Paulsen
(Eau Claire,
Wis.) point shot and beat Beaver goaltender Bre Dedrickson for the
score.
The Beavers evened the game with 19 seconds remaining in the
period. Lill
Raymond took the puck in the corner and sent it to Renae Kaip, who
skated to the
top of the right face-off circle, and took a shot that beat a
screened Jackie
MacMillan (Buffalo, Minn.).
"They were much more physical today," said Sasner. "They came
out and
played a lot harder and more aggressive today. I was proud of the
way that we
walked away from things today. We need to continue doing that."
Kendra Antony (Yorkton, Sask.) became the first Badger to
reach double-
figures when she scored her tenth goal of the season at 9:16 of the
third.
Natascha Sherman (Seattle, Wash.) made the play when she skated into
the Beaver
zone and powered through a defensman before passing the puck off to
Antony.
Antony's tally proved to be the game winner.
"We had a little momentum," said Sasner. "Kelly's goal came
on the power
play, and I think that broke them. They came down right after we
scored and
Jackie made a key save to help us keep the lead."
Roberta Shufeldt (Romulas, Mich.) gave the Badgers some
breathing room 28
seconds later with her second goal of the year. Kegley picked up a
loose puck
in her own zone and skated it deep into the BSU end before finding
Shufeldt in
front for the goal.
"I thought our team was solid today," said head coach Julie
Sasner. "We
played smarter. We were much more composed, and let the puck do a
lot of the
work."
Jackie MacMillan saw her first action since the opening night
of the
season, earning her first win with a 26-save performance. Bre
Didrickson made
21 saves in the game to fall to 2-2-0.
"It was great to see Jackie get her first win," said Sasner.
"She had a
great game. We just have to make sure she can see the shots."
No. 10 Wisconsin (7-4-1, 5-2-1 WCHA) returns to Madison, Wis.,
next week
for its first action at the Dave County Coliseum. The Badgers will
face third-
ranked Minnesota (7-3-0, 4-0-0 WCHA), who comes off a sweep at Ohio
State. The
games will face off at 7:05 p.m., on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19 and
20.
Wisconsin Public Television will televise Saturday's contest on tape
delay at
9:00 p.m.

Hi all! I thought I'd tell you that my team, the Central Penn Blades, is
skating a five minute exhibition during the first intermission of the
Hershey Bears game on Wednesday. If any of you are there look for us..I'll
be #27, and I'll be in goal (I dont' usually play goal, but I'm the backup)

On another note, we got creamed yesterday by the Lightning (hi Jan! I saw
you yestereday :) but we all had a really good time, and are really happy
to be in the Mid-Atlantic Women's Hockey League! We thought we played
pretty well and just need to get our skills up a bit. They're much better
skaters they we are, and I think for the most part we played positions
pretty well (when we could catch them :)

If any body's going to the Carolina Hurricanes game on Wednesday, there
will be a women's/girls game before hand. The Raleigh Trailblazers
(women) will be playing the Raleigh Storm (U-19).

Thanks. Looks good! I noticed under Maryland, you have Susquehanna Stars
listed, but it links to the MAWHL. Maybe there's another team by that name
now, but that was our former name (although we played out of Harrisburg as
the Stars..), so I'm not sure it's right..

And to answer JE: There's a lot that doesn't work (yet :) (thanks tho)
