This discussion is interesting. In 30 years of watching hockey (plus the
years that Debbie has played and watched the game) neither of us have EVER
heard of the term "playmaker" in the context of assists in a game.

I would like to request the play by play description of hockey games be
excluded. It makes the documents very long. Interested people can get the
info directly from the team's website.

I respectfully disagree with you, Ellen. I read them. It's a great (and
free) marketing opportunity for Minnesota and Wisconsin. I wish more teams
would do it. Hopefully, by reading these press releases in a forum dedicated
to women's hockey, more fans will actually go to the games.

I enjoy the game reports (and I learn something about how to describe
games.) The parts that I'm getting a little tired of are the boiler-plate
paragraphs that both those SIDs repeat every week. I wonder whether it
would be possible for them to post reports which tell about the weekend
games and their significance, then just provide a link to the team
information that doesn't change week-to-week.

I'd also like to hear sometimes from other people describing their own
games - especially milestones like your first game ever, first game on a
girls' team, first goal, first win for a losing team, or first time
refereeing or coaching.

I agree with louise when she says:

The game reports are easy to delete if one doesn't want to read them. I do
read them a bit and learn from them, so I don't mind them on the list.

I enjoy the reports! Sometimes they can be a little long and there is some
repetition but I can easily skim over that. There are girls I have either
coached or coached against that I enjoy following. I wish more teams would
promote what they are doing! The teams that have the best crowds also seem
to be the teams that promote the best too??? That seems very strange
doesn't it?? 8-)

Interesting thought. Now that my daughter plays in the local middle school
league, I would love to see some coverage. Any ideas on how to get the
papers to pick this stuff up? Everything from highschool lacrosse to
football gets its day in the sun. How do you get this info into the papers?

Send press releases to newspapers and radio stations before every game and
after every game.

Get a few of your fans/parents to call the paper and ask about a game
result when it doesn't appear in the paper.

Does your paper have something called "amateur scene" or "local schools"
where they print (in small type) the reports they get from different
leagues without sending reporters themselves? Try submitting stuff to that
first.

Try sending articles and pictures to various neighbourhood weekly papers
(especially the free kind that get delivered to everybody in certain
neighbourhoods).

All I know is that she's not playing college hockey anymore because she was
on the Wheaties box. Other than that, I'm not sure where she is. I could
probably find out though.
