Hi Vicki,

>I'm looking for dates for the Scarborough tournament - I believe it is

I have a link to a list of all Ontario tournaments from my web page at
 http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~andria/tourney/canada/
Click on the link for "Ontario Competitive Tournaments."

>I'm also looking for dates for the Senior AA provincials - also in
>February.

I'm not sure when those are, but a friend of mine said she would be
phoning the OWHA soon to find out. I'll post the info at
http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~andria/prov/on/provincials/
once I know. For now, I just know that the Senior AAA (teams from the
National Women's Hockey league) Provincials will be in Kitchener at the
Auditorium from Feb 16-20, 2000.

Spinal Condition Ends Hockey Career For Carrie Jokiel Of UNH Women's
Ice Hockey Team

DURHAM, NH-- Six days after an injury suffered on the ice during the
Mercyhurst women's ice hockey game (Oct. 15), doctors have recommended that
senior forward and captain Carrie Jokiel (Anchorage, Alaska) no longer
participate in women's ice hockey at the University of New Hampshire, or in
any other contact sport.

As a result, Jokiel announced her decision not to continue her
women's ice hockey career to her teammates at practice earlier today.

She suffers from a condition called spinal stenosis, which is a
narrowing of the spinal canal, a congenital birth defect. In addition, she also
suffers from a protruding disc at the C3 level, which complicates her
condition. The C3 level vertebrae is located a few inches below the base of the
skull.

Jokiel will remain a member of the Wildcats and continue to
serve as captain for the remainder of the 1999-00 season. She is expected to be
able to skate during practice and will be on the bench for all future women's
hockey contests.

Looking at the first three seasons of her UNH career, Jokiel
recorded 15 goals, 19 assists for a total of 34 points. She is also a member of
the Student/Athlete Advisory Committee at UNH. A sports studies major, she was
selected to attend the NCAA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. last spring.
Jokiel is also active in the Community Action Through Sports group.

Women*s Hockey Downed by No. 1 Crimson

Middleton, Wis. - First-year women*s ice hockey program Wisconsin led
the defending national champion and top-ranked Harvard Crimson 1-0
through two periods, but allowed three third period goals and fell 3-1
on Friday.

The Badgers grabbed the lead midway through the first period when
Leslie Toner (Wausau, Wis.) blocked a Harvard clearing attempt. The
puck caromed off teammate Roberta Shufeldt (Romulus, Mich.) onto the
stick of Kendra Antony (Yorkton, Sask.). Antony finished the play with
her team-leading eighth goal of the season at 10:30 to give UW the 1-0
advantage.

For the next period and a half, Badger goaltender Chanda Gunn
(Huntington Beach, Calif.) took over. Gunn finished the first period
with 15 stops, before making 12 saves in the second period to keep
Harvard scoreless.

*Chanda Gunn kept us in it...especially in the beginning,* said head
coach Julie Sasner. *She made save after save. In the second period I
thought our team did a better job clearing things out for her, but
Harvard is great.*

Wisconsin entered the third period still holding its 1-0 lead. The
Badger faithful had hopes the home team would pull off the monumental
upset.

*Coach told us before the game we could steal this game,* said
Antony. *That we had nothing to fear because we were the underdogs.*

*We were thinking play the way we were playing,* added Sasner. *The
thing I love about our team, which is probably the thing that killed
us tonight, is that we*re gutsy. We were pinching defenseman when it
was 1-1. We*re not satisfied to tie, we want to win. We want to beat
the national champions.*

The Badgers* Sis Paulsen (Eau Claire, Wis.) was called for tripping
at 2:07 of the third and Harvard finally broke through shortly
thereafter. Just eight seconds into the man advantage, Harvard tied
the game on a tick-tack-toe play finished by Tammy Shewchuk. Jamie
Hagerman played the puck down the side boards to Jennifer Botterill
who threaded the slot to Shewchuk.

*We*ve got to stay out of the penalty box. That is a lesson we
continue learning and we are going to have master that one. It took
them only six or seven seconds to score that power-play goal. You
can*t mess around with a team like this. They are a great team.*

Harvard notched the game-winner at 14:57 when Botterill, just inside
her own blue line, spotted Angie Francisco behind the Badger defense.
Botterill connected with Francisco and sent her in for a breakaway.
The junior hit the upper corner above Gunn*s glove to give the Crimson
its first lead of the game at 2-1. Botterill scored an insurance goal
at 16:13 of the third, giving her a goal and two assists in the
contest. Angie Francisco and Jamie Notman added assists to close out
the scoring.

*I thought it was a great performance by our team tonight,* said head
coach Julie Sasner. *We*re a young team, we*ve only played nine games
in our first season ever. One thing we*ve proven is that we*re never
going to beat ourselves. We always start strong and we finish
strong.*

Gunn made 38 saves and dropped to 3-2-1 with the loss. Crystal
Springer earned the victory for Harvard with a 13-save performance and
improved to 1-0-0.

The Badgers (5-3-1, 3-2-1 WCHA) resume action on Sunday, Nov. 7 at
the Kohl Center. Third-ranked Brown (0-1-0), who fell 4-0 to No. 6
Minnesota today, comes to Madison, Wis., for a 1:05 p.m. start.

GOPHERS SHUTOUT THIRD-RANKED BROWN

Erica Killewald stopped 25 shots and Laura Slominski's goal just 43 seconds
into the game was all the offense fourth-ranked Minnesota needed as the
Gophers downed No. 3 Brown, 4-0, at Mariucci Arena.

Minnesota scored early when Tracy Engstrom won a faceoff in her own zone.
Ambria Thomas picked up the loose puck and gave it to Slominski in the
neutral zone. From there, the sophomore right wing skated in alone on Brown
goalie Ali Brewer and beat high on the glove side to give the Gophers a 1-0
lead.

The margin stretched to 2-0 when Nadine Muzerall redirected a Winny Brodt
shot through traffic for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Bears controlled much of the play in the second period, thanks to a pair
of power plays which resulted in five of their 10 shots in the period.
Brown held a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal during the second period but
the score remained 2-0 until Thomas and Slominski hooked up for another goal
at 5:01 of the final period. With Engstrom again winning a defensive-zone
faceoff, Thomas gave Slominski the puck and the duo broke out of their own
zone 2-on-1. This time, Slominski fed the puck back to Thomas who then
buried her fifth goal of the season.

Frosh Ronda Curtin, playing her first game of the season at center, closed
out the scoring when she stole the puck in the neutral zone, skated in on
Brewer from the left wing, used a deke to put the Brown goalie on the ice
and then used her long reach to tuck in her fifth goal of the season with
just 2.2 seconds to play.

Killewald recorded 25 saves for her 13th career shutout and first of the
season. She was also named the game's first star for her efforts.

Minnesota will be at home again Sunday when it hosts defending national
champion and top-ranked Harvard, beginning at 2:05 p.m. at Mariucci Arena.
