Hi everyone,

I will be moving from Columbus, OH out to the San Francisco area on June
19. I searched the web and found the NCWHL (Northern California Women's
Hockey League) website and I tried to e-mail a few people on there, but
haven't gotten any response. There weren't any contact phone numbers
listed. If any of you out there know about this league and have a contact
name and number, I'd greatly appreciate it as I'd like to keep playing ice
hockey when I arrive out there. Also, I'm 26, so hopefully this is a
women's league and not a girl's, is that right? Of course if there are any
other leagues out there I'm open to that as well.

Thanks,
Shannon

Most of my bruises have come from co-ed highschool roller hockey,
mainly just from blocking pucks on defense. Although the worst one came
during a practice: my own teammate plowed his head into my shoulder which
left a nice bruise. He turned out to be a jerk anyways, he would never pass
to me or the other girl, and after that season, he went off and started his
own team so he didn't have to be with girls. (his team ended up placing last,
and our team - with the 2 girls - ended up winning the championship)
In women's ice hockey though, I haven't had many bruises, although
the overall aches and pains have increased a little bit. I didn't play with
shoulder pads the last season, but this summer I got them, because well, the
face plants on the ice don't feel to great. One thing I did notice though, in
the co-ed roller hockey, if I fell, even a really lame fall, everyone asked
if I was alright. In my last ice hockey game, I went flying into the goal
post and no one asked if I was alright, not even teammates or the ref. I just
thought that was a little odd. I still can't figure out how I hit the post
though, because I didn't have any bruises or major pains.
As for guys in school (since I don't work) they don't really have
anything against girls playing. I showed part of a tape from a game for one
of my finals, and the guys thought it was cool, but they thought we should
get into fights and slam each other into the boards.
Well, and since I'm already writing, I might as well ask, even though
the answer is pretty obvious but anyways: One of my knee cup things on my
shinpad cracked in the last game, so I should probably get new shinpads,
right? its too bad they don't just sell one, because its kinda a waste since
otherwise they're in good condition, I've only had them for about a year and
a half.

And I really hate the off-season, even though its only been 3-4 weeks (which
is 3-4 weeks too long) well a least there's only one more week to wait!

The posts on the Lake Placid development camps have been very
informative but no one has mentioned the National Goalkeepers
Development Camp in Colorado in July. My daughter has been selected to
attend and before I send her flying off alone I would like to hear about
someone else's experience there. We have questions such as: How many
girls go?, Are the girls sessions kept separate from the boys?, Is it
scouted?, What's the daily schedule like?, etc. Anyone with info on this
camp please share since my usual sources are stumped on this one and
most people in hockey are not even aware that it exists. Thanks.

*** Just a note - we have had some people ask what level the
camp is.  This is a camp INSTRUCTED by collegiate coaches and
players.  RECREATIONAL and NEW PLAYERS with some skills
welcome.  Jackie and her team do a good job of breaking out players
by skill and taking advantage of all the ice and coaching
available.

*** Don't forget GOALIES GOALIES GOALIES

Asst. Director & Goalie Coach: Sue Mussey, Former Women's Assoc. Head Coach, Providence College

ALL NEW THIS YEAR - WOMEN'S SENIOR BEGINNER SECTION
Five 1.5 hour sessions, Evenings 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.  - $125 per skater
What a great way for Mom and Daughter to take a hockey trip!

Camp instructors and counselors will be current and former NCAA Division I, II, and III Women's Hockey Players and Coaches.  OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALISTS ARE POSSIBLE.  NCAA rules prohibit the use of collegiate athletes names for promotional purposes, so we are not allowed to list our instructors. Last year we had 13 players and coaches, along with 3 local coaches, and a 3 to 1 player to instructor ratio throughout the camp - we will strive to maintain that ratio (except for Women's Senior).

The camp is scheduled during one of the busiest weeks in Milwaukee:
  • July 9-11: The Greater Milwaukee Open PGA Tour Event
  • South Shore Water Frolics (lots of fireworks at the lakefront)
  • Bastille Days - French ethnic festival in Downtown streets
  • July 11: The Great Circus Parade
  • July 15-18: Festa Italiana - the nation's largest Italian ethnic festival, on the lakefront. Best fireworks you'll ever see.
  • 4 Milwaukee Brewer home games

We have lots of great things planned for the camp. What a great way for your Daughter to get a great hockey camp with ALL FEMALE instructors, AND for Mom to start playing hockey!!

They didn't indicate what level they will play at, but given they are asking for experienced players, I would guess Blue Line. - -----Original Message----- From: Angela Koos (NTT) [mailto:email@hidden] I got this as a flyer last night and thought I would pass it along.
