The Colorado Xtreme and the Aspen Avalanche faced off in the Rocky Mountain
District finals at the end of the 97-98 season, Aspen beat them 2-1. After
much recruiting, the Aspen team beefed up its roster with several National
Development camp players. Again, at the end of the 98-99 season, the Aspen
Avalanche and the Colorado Xtreme faced off again, with an even higher paced
game. The Colorado Xtreme lost in a very tight and close game (2-1).

So, yes there is talent in the Aspen team, but the Colorado Xtreme are close
behind. The Colorado Xtreme will have two players attended the US Olympic
Development (17-18) camp this year: Junior Lacey Erickson (forward and
Captain of the team) and Sophomore Kim Hayden (defense). (You can read
about them in the last issue of Hipcheck magazine). The west is continuing
to develop a talent pool as future college recruits.

(And yes the team they were playing was Shattuck St. Mary's. We were up in
Aspen the week before.)
