Subject: Problem with Goalie Pads

Hello all! I hope someone can help me with this!

I have a pair of Ferland pads that are fairly new. At the toe of each pad
there are two bolts protruding on the inner side of the pad and when I'm
playing they rub against my skates. The inside bolt on each pad is doing a
lot of damage to my goalie skates (Bauer 5000's! Grrr!) and will eventually
wear a hole into my skates.

Has anyone had this problem? The hockey shops that I have called have not
been very helpful...

Yes, I too have had that same problem. The only way to solve it is to cut
off the bolt, or (more preferable), go out to a hardware store and buy a
shorter set.

Subject: Venosta Shamrocks Oz Tour!

I had a very interesting weekend. The Venosta Shamrocks from Ontario
visited Canberra, and played one match against our State team, and also
hosted two training sessions with the players. I'm not sure where exactly
in Ontario they were from but their ages ranged from 16-38 years. I
couldn't participate in anything (medial ligament damage...again!) but I did
watch the game, which was a lot of fun and encouraging. The passing and
skating skills of the Canadians (compared to us) is quite amazing! I don't
know what they thought of our rink - it's a bit shonky, dark and small - but
they didn't seem to mind! Anyway, the final score was 4-1 to the Shamrocks,
which was actually "closer" than anyone thought it would be (people were
expecting 15-0).
I don't know who organised it but it was a great idea. It's a pity it's so
expensive for teams to travel overseas. I'll try to scan some photos from
the w/end onto my Webpage - which is slowly getting there - and also add
some pics of my team (may be able to get my hands on a digital camera for a
weekend soon...). I'll publicise the address when it looks half-decent!
Christine.

If I'm not mistaken, I actually had the privliedge of seeing these 2 teams
play against each other while I was in Aspen this past January. The game was
on Sat, Jan 30. (that coincides with the time I was in Aspen.)

I am 99% sure that the visiting team was Shattuck-St. Mary's, and the home
team was the Aspen something. Regardless, I was in awe and inspired by the
high level of play that I witnessed that night.

I was half-joking that I should make a note of some of these players, because
someday they may very well become well known, and I could say "I saw them
when!"
