Hi there,

Someone asked me if I could find a picture of Sandra Whyte with her
friends from the U.S. Olympic team, that was taken at Sandra's
wedding. If such a picture is on the Internet, please let me know.

Thanks,
Andria

Subject: Interviewing Coaches

I have a great question for the list. We are looking for a new coach for
our 19 and under Tier 1 girls team. I know I will be the tie breaking vote
and want to be an informed interviewer. What kind of questions should I
ask? How much should they know about "girls" hockey versus "youth" hockey?
Does it make a difference as to how many contacts they may or may not have
in "girls/womens college" hockey?

Please expand on this topic. I really appreciate all the comments that the
list has had and need all the help I can get. One other thing that may
complicate our situation: We are a team of many cities across the miles and
the voting members represent this make-up: 2 from one city and 2 from
another and me (from one of the mentioned cities). I am for the best person
to lead the girls. Two are from one city where a coach has been filling in
and has a daughter in college and the support of these 2 adults. Two others
are from another city, one of whom is also recommending a coach who has
never been affliated with girls hockey but wants to start. Lots of politics
as always, so please help.

Opinions are welcome. Advice wanted. I am so glad I have the list.

If you don't have the right technique, no stick in the world is going to
make
 a bit of difference!

Here's how you can prove it. Before you spend $100 + on some fancy stick,
try one of your teamamtes' sticks. If all of a sudden you have a slapshot
that goes 100 mph, get that stick! (But I seriously doubt that will happen!)

Work on your technique with a qualified instructor! Once you have developed
your shot, if you still fell that something is lacking , at that point you
may want to consider changing sticks so you can "fine tune" your shot. Once
you have a an idea of what a good slap shot feels like, then you will be
able
to make an informed decision as to which stick is right for you.

But until that day comes, spend you money wisely - use it on lessons!

Thanks for your advice, Jill. I'll be sure and have my 12 yr. old daughter
read it when she gets home from school. She's the one who wrote her
suggestions in response to the reader's request for help. Olivia's been
playing boy's "A" hockey for 8 yrs. so, I figured she had some experience
behind her comments.
