I was meaning to ask the question some time ago, but then I went on holiday
and the moment passed.

Since when does a coach help a team recover from a crushing loss, get them
playing together, keeping the focus on the prize rather than on
personalities, deliver the World Championship, then get demoted?

From Daniele's comments I take it this wasn't a voluntary stepping down.

What's the juice?

Hi, my name is Susanica. I'm from Thousand Oaks, CA (previously from
Boulder, CO) anyway, this summer my parents are leaving the country so
they are shipping me and my brother off to camps. I'll be taking
physics at UC Santa Barbara....and as far as i know, they have no
hockey whatsoever!! THIS is PURE TORTURE!! I'm 16, and i'm going to be
a junior next year. This was supposed to be my big summer, checking out
camps and getting noticed by college people. My parents just don't
understand!!! I really need to know if anyone knows if a hockey program
near the area, or if anyone lives there, maybe we could play pick-up. I
haven't played in a league this season and i need to improve this
summer. Apparantly, the only reason you can have rollerblades on the
UCSB campus is for transportation. So i can't even play roller hockey!
Help! I'm gonna die of hockey withdrawal!!!!
desperate,
Susanica.

I've been playing hockey for awhile now and *still* have no slapshot. I'm
having a hard time getting the shaft to flex and am considering switching to
a junior stick. Several teammates are much smaller than me and have great
rocket-like shots. Any other pointers?

I wouldn't switch to a junior stick - but I would go to your local
hockey store and test the flexibility of a new stick in the store.
The person working at the store should be able to show you the
difference in flexibilities. For example - the Easton Cyclone Carbon
Fiber stick has the information (in pounds) on the side of the stick.
You would want to look for the 80 lb rather than the 110 lb. You can
test the flexibility by putting the blade on the floor and holding
the top of the stick in one hand and pushing in the center of the
shaft. Wood sticks will all be a little different.

Also, you may want to be sure that your form is correct. Have a coach
watch you take a few shots, and then give a few pointers. When you
hit the puck, you should try to drive it right into the ice - that's
where the flexibility comes in. Make sure that your follow through is
right also - the tip[ of your blade should be pointing where you want
the puck to go. One more thing - be sure that you're shifting your
weight correctly.

Good luck.

Dont' get a junior stick - you'll jsut break it.

Jenn
