Does anyone know how the Coral Springs Coyotes (FL) did at the Regionals in
Pittsburgh this weekend? They're the team that went cause we weren't eligible
(due to the Canadians) and I'm curious as to how they fared.
Thanks!

Amy,

This may not answer your question, but there's a good website that
just came online:

    http://www.usahockeynationals.COM/

This website covers the 7-division tournament that's going on in
Laurel MD / Washington DC. That includes all 5 women's and girls' divisions.

Are you talking girls' midgets or Senior? I don't see the Southeast district
mentioned anywhere, so I assume you were combined with Mid-American. But
I don't see Mid-American anywhere in senior A or B, and the team in 19-U
is not listed yet.

So the bottom line is I don't know, but maybe you'll all like knowing
about the website.

P. S. Is the Minnesota 19-U team really spelled "Thoroughbreads"?

please contact me. The games will be held on Long Island this July 22-15.

From the "Ice Hockey Superleague" Website:

Press Release
Silver Medal for GB Women's Team

The Great Britain Women's ice hockey team procured the runners-up spot at
the recent IIHF World Women's Championships, Pool C held in Szekesfehervar,
Hungary. The team were in Group A of Pool C and needed to top their table to
gain promotion to Pool B of the Championships for next year. However, their
achievements were remarkable and have laid strong foundations for next year.

Their first game was against the eventual Championship winners Italy, a team
which they had not played against previously. Team Coach, Laura Urqhuart,
commented. "The team played very well, though a little nervous, as this was
for many their first experience of international competition. We opened the
scoring at 28-30, which was soon equalised by Italy at 35-31. We managed to
hold the draw until 51-47 when Italy went ahead with a further three
unanswered goals in the space of four minutes. The team held their own and
were very unlucky not to score against Italy's goalie who was on form
throughout making incredible saves to win the game 4-1."

The next day, their opponents were South Africa, another unknown quantity
for the GB team. Their
22-0 trouncing of the South African team was the highest ever recorded score
against a female international team in a IIHF competition. The game gave GB
an opportunity to ice every member of the squad. Coach Urquhart puts their
success down to "a perfect execution of team systems and concepts with 110%
contribution from every team member." A great indication of the standard of
the Great Britain team was the fact that Championship gold medalists Italy
were only able to beat South Africa by 7-1.

Their final game was against Hungary, a somewhat more familiar face to the
team as they had played, and won, two challenge matches against them
previously. Another fine performance from the GB team produced a 9-1
scoreline in their favour, with the Hungarian goaltender making 73 saves.

Laura Urquhart summarised Great Britain's performances. "We were icing a
very young team with an average age of just 17, however a mix of skill and
motivation carried us through and gained us the Silver Medal. Every player
on the team did a wonderful job, and our netminders Vicky Robbins and Amy
Johnson gave fine performances throughout. If we had played against Italy
the same way we did in our last two games we could easily have beaten them
and taken Gold. We became stronger as the Championships went on. However,
that said, I think it will do us good to stay in this Pool for another year
and win promotion next year with added experience, strength and
determination."

"We were really proud of every team member and now have the building blocks
for many future successes with this young but exceptionally talented team,"
Laura added.

On another bright note, Great Britain had seven players in the top ten
points scorers, holding the first three places with Michelle Smith on 15
points, Louise Wheeler on 14 points and Teresa Lewis on 12 points, and
Assistant Captain, Michelle Smith received the Best Player of Team award.

The other results in the Championships were: Hungary 6, South Africa 0.
Hungary 1, Italy 8. South Africa 1, Italy 7.

Team, on 0115 9871962.

What is the hockey like for a 13 year old girl in Pittsburgh. She had
played for 6 years with the boys, but is about to go exclusively to girls
hockey. And a little off the topic, any contacts with figure skating for
her twin sister out there?

Many thanks.
