NATIONAL WOMEN'S TEAM ROSTER ANNOUNCED FOR 1999
   WOMEN'S WORLD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP

MONTREAL, QC -- Canada's National Women's team roster for the 1999 IIHF
Women's
World Championship includes fourteen players that participated at the
1998 Winter Olympics
and twelve players that won the 1997 Women's World Championship, the
Canadian Hockey
Association announced Friday in Montreal, QC.

Returning players include four-time World Champions, Geraldine Heaney of
Weston, ON and
France St-Louis of St-Hubert, QC and three-time World Champions Nancy
Drolet of
Drummondville, QC, Danielle Goyette of Calgary, AB and Karen Nystrom of
Scarborough,
   ON.

The 1999 Women's World Championship will take place in Espoo and Vantaa,
Finland from
March 8-14. Nations competing this year in Group B are Canada, Finland,
Germany and
Switzerland, with USA, China, Sweden and Russia competing in Group A.

Canada's National Women's team have a 20-0-0 record in World Championship
play, and have
won gold medals at all four Women's World Championships.

"We are extremely proud of the history and success of our National
Women's program in the
1990's, but we realize the talent level of other nations has improved",
said Tom Renney, Vice-
President, Hockey for the Canadian Hockey Association. "The growth and
popularity of
women's hockey in Canada has been tremendous, and can be attributed to
the development
programs delivered through the 13 member Branches of the CHA that assist
with our
   international success."

"With this year's team we can see the increase in talented players, which
is the result of the
development programs at the Branch level and with the player's club
teams," said Gaetan
Robitaille, General Manager, Female High Performance Programs for the
CHA. "With the
addition this year of the Women's Under 22 program, 44 players gained
valuable international
experience, which we believe will assist us not only in this year's
program, but will increase the
   talent base for upcoming players."

Jennifer Botterill and Hayley Wickenheiser of Calgary, AB, and Caroline
Ouellette of Montreal,
QC participated at the Under 22 women's NIKE Elite camp in August and the
Under 22 tour of
   Switzerland and Germany in December.

"The coaching staff had to make some difficult decisions in selecting
this year's roster, but we are
confident heading into the World Championship that we have made the right
decisions," said
Daniele Sauvageau, Head Coach for Team Canada. "We are extremely
fortunate as a nation to
have the opportunity to choose from such a great talent pool of women's
hockey players.
Through our development programs, the future of young players is very
promising."

TSN/RDS, the official broadcaster of the Canadian Hockey Association,
will have coverage of
the semi-final game on March 13 and final game of the Championship on
March 14.

Canada has had success in International events in the 1990s, with the
Women's, Junior and
Men's World Championship and Olympic teams bringing home 20 medals, 14 of
those gold,
since 1990. The next closest nations are Sweden and Russia, who have each
won 14 medals,
   and five of those gold.

The Women's World Championship is now played every year, with the
exception of Olympic
years. Women's hockey made it's debut as an Olympic sport at the 1998
Winter Olympic games
in Nagano, Japan. Canada will be hosting the 2000 Women's World
Championship in
   Mississauga, ON.

Details will be released shortly regarding an exhibition game that will
be played in Southern
Ontario between Canada and Team USA prior to the team's departure for
Finland.

GOPHERS, WILDCATS SKATE TO SCORELESS TIE

DURHAM, N.H.--Erica Killewald posted her third consecutive shutout but New
Hampshire goalie Alicia Roberts matched her performance as Minnesota skated
to a 0-0 tie with the Wildcats in the Citizens Bank Border Battle at the
Whittemore Center.

The Gophers looked to get off to a quick start as New Hampshire was
penalized for a protocol violation after failing to take the ice on time
but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.

The Wildcats had a great opportunity of their own in the second period as
Minnesota was whistled for back-to-back penalties in the first six minutes
but, despite getting six shots on goal during the two power plays, were
unable to take advantage.

New Hampshire got one more break when they went on the power play with 56
seconds to play in the third period but the Gophers managed to kill their
19th consecutive penalty to preserve the tie.

Killewald posted her second straight 30-save shutout as she recorded 32
against the Wildcats. Roberts had 22 saves for New Hampshire.

Despite snapping a 17-game winning streak, Minnesota, 18-1-2, has a 19-game
unbeaten streak and lead the tournament with a 1-0-1 record. The Wildcats,
14-1-5, is 0-1-1 in the CBBB.

The Gophers face the AAA senior Beatrice Aeros at 11 a.m. CST Sunday in
their final game of the tournament, needing a win or a tie to clinch the
title.

St. Pierre heading to World Championships

McGill rookie goalie Kim St. Pierre will continue to wear a Team Canada
uniform. The 19 year old Chateauguay, Quebec
resident has been named to the Canadian National team roster for the
1999 World Women's Hockey Championships in
Finland in March.

St. Pierre, in her first season of international competition, is 4-0 in
games vs Finland this season. Two of those wins came
recently during a four-game series against the visiting Finns. St.
Pierre was in the net for a 6-2 win in Renfrew, Ontario and
a 2-1 victory in Montreal, Quebec, where she was named the Canadian
Player of the Game.

The Physical Education freshman also posted a pair of victories at the
3-Nations Cup in Finland in December, where the Canadian squad clinched
the gold-medal.

St. Pierre, who missed a week of action with her university team, the
McGill Martlets, returned Saturday to post a shutout
against R.P.I. She kicked aside 24 shots in a 10-0 McGill win.

Subject: USA Hockey Districts

I just found out this weekend that my team is going to the Southeast District
championships in North Carolina. The only thing that I know is that they're
being held in Raleigh on March 12-14. Can anyone tell me what rink the games
are being played at, if there is a schedule made, and anything about hotels?
Thanks.
