Besides these games, a 4th game has been added on Thursday, Jan.21 in Renfrew,
Ontario at 7:30 pm. Renfrew is about an hour from Ottawa.

If you are going to be attending either of the game in Renfrew or Montreal be
sure to checkout the KL Sports "Sport Source for Women" booth. We will have
our merchandise for sale at both of those games. So if you have a chance
checkout our our website at http://www.trytel.com/~klsport before the game and
save the shipping charges and buy your women's hockey products in person at
the
games.

I have heard that there is also going to be a fundraiser game with Team Canada
and a Whitby Team on Tuesday, January 19 in Whitby. I don't know all the
details for that game.

See you at the games.

I played in that Suburban hockey summer league last year. It was actually
pretty fun, they mix up the players so that all the teams are balanced...as
best they can anyway!

There might be a summer league at the Troy Ice Arena on 16 Mile and John R.
I went to a women's clinic there last year, you might want to check that out
too. It was something like an 8-week long session (2 days a week, an hour
and a half each) of drills and stuff, and the last half hour would be a
scrimmage. The guys that ran it had some GREAT drills!

Jenn,

You stick with it and don't let the guys intimidate you. They're just
showing off for each other. I grew up playing sports with boys (given the
lack of opportunities for girls) and I found, and continue to find that
they talk big for awhile but they'll eventually get used to you and playing
with girls. I also find that when I play, I forget that I'm the only
female-I just feel like a hockey player. The guys usually keep their
distance and scowl at me until they seem me get down and dirty-fall down,
dig the puck out of the corners, fight for the puck, use my body-after
that, they loosen up, see me as a teammate and occasionally ask me out on a
date (but that's a whole other subject). I find that once they make this
transition, I am considered a valued member of the team and my teammates DO
NOT allow the other team to treat me unfairly.

My advice-play with both the boys and the girls. It's two different games
and you'll learn from both. They may give you a hard time but you just
need to show them how tough you are and don't take any crap from anybody.

I agree with you-Let's Go Flyers!

Hi all! It seems like there are a number of people in the Philadelphia
area on this list. I was wondering if anyone was interested in maybe
having a gathering for a pick up game. I realize this may be a little
weird, since we all have met through the internet, but I thought it might
be fun.

Please feel free to email me privately. I'm located in Delaware so
anywhere between here and Philly is fine with me.

Subject: WIH -- a dilemma, any advice?

Hey there,

I'm a pretty quiet list member but I was hoping for some advice! Here's the
problem...

I'm the goalie for a first year senior novice team, last year I played
defense and most of the players on my team have been playing about a year or
so. This is our second year together, our first year in the league. The
coach we have is not the same one we had last year and is relatively new to
coaching.

I'm having a difficult time getting my coach to actually work with me on
goalie drills. We have 2 assistant coaches and he usually has them doing
something else. It's mostly because he doesn't know anything about coaching
goalies but he also has not made much of an effort to learn either. I
bought a book on goalie drills and I plan on letting him take a look at it,
but when I told him about it he seemed sort of blasŽ and offended. (I don't
think I said anything that would seem condescending.) Plus he doesn't feel
I need to improve, he's very happy with the way I play...I disagree, there's
always room for improvement, especially when I've only been goaltending
since this summer!

The other part of my problem is that I'm going to be moving in April and I
will have to drive about 2 hours to practice if I stay on the same team, but
I know for a fact that there are teams in the area I'm moving to. (Anyone
know of any teams in the Ann Arbor, MI area that might need a goalie next
year?) My team needs me, I'm THE goalie and we have someone that will play
backup if I have to miss a game. I'm willing to drive the distance once I
move, but not if I'm going to get the same coaching. (We may be getting a
new coach.)

Help!

I'd say if you can and with your coach's permission/blessing/whatever, see
if you can find yourself a goalie coach. Maybe an adult goalie in one of
the rec leagues at a local rink. Maybe he/she could meet with you once a
week rathar than every time you practice with your team.

>The other part of my problem is that I'm going to be moving in April and I

Ooo Michigan territory :) (I mean the university not the state) Well if
you don't mind the drive, and you can find yourself a coach, I say why not
stay with your current team, but I would think that kind of commute would
get awfully old awfully quickly. If you think you want to do it, give it a
shot, but keep yourself open to the idea of transferring to a closer team
