Subject: UQTR edges McGill 4-3

Patriotes avenge weekend loss to McGill with 4-3 victory

The Universite de Quebec at Trois Rivieres Patriotes scored three times
in the third period to edge the McGill Martlets 4-3
in Quebec University Women's Hockey League play, Wednesday, in Montreal.
Caroline Proulx scored twice and assisted
on another to lead the Patriotes attack.

It's the first time this season that UQTR has defeated McGill, who
secured a home playoff date with a 3-1 victory at Trois
Rivieres, Sunday. The Martlets won the season series 2-1-1 and will host
the Patriotes in the semi-finals on Friday,
February 19th.

"UQTR was full value for the win," said General Manager Dan Madden.
"They played with more emotion and intensity
than we did and that was the difference."

"All four games could have gone either way. Everytime we step on the ice
this season with UQTR we'll be in a hockey
game and the team that does the little things well will probably win,"
said Madden.

McGill opened the scoring with 1:34 to play in the first period when
captain Dana Rittmaster roofed a shot to beat UQTR
netminder Stephanie Vinet.

The Patriotes evened the count 1:04 into the middle stanza on Proulx's
first of two goals on the evening. Her pass from
behind the net deflected off a UQTR skate and past McGill goalie Amey
Doyle.

McGill regained the advantage on the power play with 41 seconds
remaining in the 2nd period. Defenceman Allison
Ticmanis blasted a shot from the point that made its way through traffic
and into the top corner for a 2-1 McGill lead.

The Patriotes tied the game and than took the lead with a pair of goals
in a 4:12 span early in the third period. McGill
responded mid-way through the period when Julie Hornsby slid a shot past
Vinet to even the count at 3-3.

The Patriotes notched the eventual winner with 4:17 to play when
Caroline Proulx picked up a loose puck after a flurry in
the UQTR zone and went the distance of the ice to beat Kim St. Pierre,
who had replaced Doyle following UQTR's third
goal.

"It was a situation where we had the pressure on in their end and almost
scored and they picked up a loose puck that was
deflected on a shot from the slot and turned it up the ice and got the
winner," said Madden.

"It was an exciting game and I expect much the same every time we step
on the ice with this team."

McGill's record falls to 5-4-1. UQTR improves to 4-5-1.

McGill hosts College Brebeuf, Saturday. Game time is 6:30 p.m.

She Scores." ? I saw one on a car in Concord, New Hampshire, but haven't
been able to find them for sale anywhere. Any one have any ideas??? Can I

Subject: A Girl on a Guys team

Hi my name is Jenn. I am relatively new to hockey and to this list.
Here's my problem... I just started playing hockey on a girls team this
year and I love it sooo much but my team doesn't play all that much and
next year I'd really like to play for my schools team. My school
doesn't have a guys team and I don't really think the guys would be all
that welcoming of a girl. I am far from being great or even good at
hockey but I try as hard as I can and I do feel that I am improving. I
am completely dedicated to hockey (i've already had to quit one sport
for it) and I want to play as much as I can. I really want to be a part
of my High school team but I don't want the whole team to hate me
because I'm a girl. I'd really appreciate any advice from anyone who's
been through something like this. Do you think I should just stick to
playing on a girls team and not playing hockey as much as I want or
should I try to go for the guys team? Another factor is I really would
like to play checking hockey but I never actually have..if i'm in shape
and a decent skater (always working to get better) will I survive
checking hockey or not?
Thanks so much for your time,
Jenn
