                 McGill heading to CIAU Nationals

The McGill University Women's Hockey Club has earned a berth in the
CIAU National Chmapionship in Toronto, February 25-28.

In front of 200 fans, the Martlets defeated UQTR 2-1 to clinch a
berth in the Quebec League Final, for the first time since the 1984-85
season.

Kathleen O'Reilly and Sarah Lomas scored for McGill, who outshot
UQTR 25-19.

McGill finishes the season with a 4-1-1 record vs the Patriotes,
who finished 3rd at last years inaugural CIAU Championship.

The game had everything on and off the ice. A disallowed goal and a
penalty shot kept things interesting on the ice, while off the ice rowdy
fans forced local law officials into action after they expressed their
displeasure over a disallowed goal with 36.8 seconds to play that would
have given UQTR a tie and likely would have forced overtime.

McGill meets Concordia, the defending CIAU Champion, in Sunday's
Quebec Championship game. It's a 2:00 start at Loyola Arena.

The Martlets opening game at Nationals is Thursday at Varsity Arena
in Toronto.

MUZERALL'S GOAL LEADS GOPHERS PAST FRIARS

Minnesota fired 38 shots at Providence goalie Sara DeCosta but Nadine Muzerall's
goal at 15:38 of the first period was the only one to get by the 1998 Olympian.
However, it was enough to give the Gophers a 1-0 victory.

Muzerall had just come out of the penalty 22 seconds before scoring her 23rd
goal of the season and scored as the Friars Val Bono was being whistled for a
cross-checking penalty.

With the puck loose in front of the Providence goal, Jenny Schmidgall poked the
puck free and Muzerall scored from the left side when DeCosta was unable to
follow the puck through the pile of bodies near the crease.

The Gophers had ample opportunities to pull away in the game, outshooting their
guests 19-1 in the second period and 30-9 over the final 40 minutes.

Although DeCosta was the star of the game with her 37-save effort, Minnesota
goalie Erica Killewald stopped 15 shots for her sixth shutout of the season,
including a breakaway effort by Kim Mathias late in the third period.

The second-ranked Gophers, 24-2-2, and sixth-ranked Friars, 17-9-2, close out
their two-game series Sunday, beginning at 1:05 p.m., at Mariucci Arena. The
game will be broadcast by KKMS-980 AM.

(hats, t-shirts, hockey cards, photos, pins and more)

3) Stacy Wilson at CAAWS booth during the Canada Winter Games
If you will be attending the Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland stop by the CAAWS (Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport) booth at Canada House which is located in the Canada Games Complex.  STACY WILSON, Team Captain of the Canadian Olympic Women's Hockey Team will be signing autographs.  CAAWS will be distributing Stacy Wilson Promo cards with her picture.  Stacy will be at the booth at selected times from Friday, Feb.26 until Tuesday, March 2.  TSN has also asked her to do some color commentating work with them for 3 games and she will be dropping the puck for the Open Ceremonies for the Women's Hockey event.  Stacy will be a busy gal!

Judy Diduck, Canadian Olympic Women's Hockey Team member may also be joining us at the CAAWS booth during a portion of the time.
