My son broke is collarbone in 1st year Peewee just before Christams. He was
back in action at the beginning of February. His conditioning was way off
and his shoulder was sore. He was also a little tentative. (he's now in
Midget and still plays...) A boy on my other son's team got his collarbone
broken this year in 1st year peewee. He came back to practice after 6 weeks
and got hit on a "drive to the net" drill and left practice in pain.
Nothing serious but the bone still hurts that soon after the injury. I
would be reluctant to have your daughter play 2 games that close together.
She'll be a little sore and would need some recovery time after the first
game.

CANADA'S NATIONAL WOMEN'S TEAM TO FACE TEAM USA
 IN THE TSN CHALLENGE

BRAMPTON, ON_The inaugural TSN Challenge will see the top two teams in
women's hockey face-off, as Canada's National Women's hockey team
will take on arch-rival Team USA on March 1 at the Brampton Centre
for Sports and Entertainment, the Canadian Hockey Association and
Ontario Women's Hockey Association announced Friday.

Given the increased popularity of women's hockey, not only in Canada,
but across the world, the TSN Challenge is an opportunity to provide
more exposure for the women's game in Canada, giving young girls
playing hockey role models to look up to.

TSN, the official broadcaster for the Canadian Hockey Association,
will be carrying the TSN Challenge live from coast to coast on March
1, with game time 7:00 EST.

"We are extremely excited to have the on-going support of TSN with
their focus on the promotion and development of women's hockey in
Canada by broadcasting this game," said Scott Smith, Vice President,
Operations for the Canadian Hockey Association.

Canada's National Women's team will be getting together on February
27, and will hold practices for two days prior to the TSN Challenge on
March 1. Canada will then be departing for Sweden on March 2 for
training, prior to competing at the 1999 Women's World Hockey
Championship in Espoo, Finland from March 8-14.

"We are proud to be the official broadcaster of the Canadian Hockey
Association, and have had a long history of televising Women's
pre-Olympic and Women's World Championship games, and look forward to
providing the TSN Challenge to hockey fans in Canada," said Rick
Brace, President, TSN.

This will be the first annual TSN Challenge, which is planned to be
held every year, with future plans seeing the top three or four teams
in women's hockey compete in a tournament format.

"We are very pleased to host the only game featuring these teams in
North America between the 1998 Winter Olympics and the 1999 World
Championship'" said Fran Rider, Executive Director of the OWHA. "This
game is great for the development and awareness of women's hockey all
across Canada."

This will be the second time Canada and Team USA have met since the
1998 Olympic gold medal final in Nagano, Japan, with Canada defeating
Team USA 2-0 in December at the Three Nations Cup in Finland.

Tickets for the TSN Challenge are available by calling Ticketmaster's
charge by phone line at 416-872-5000, or by purchasing tickets at the
Brampton Centre for Sports and Entertainment box office. Tickets are
reserved seating and are priced at $10.00 and $14.00 each.

FOUR-GOAL SECOND PERIOD LEADS GOPHERS TO 6-1 WIN

Minnesota scored four times in the second period, including three
power-play goals, and posted a 6-1 win over Cornell at Mariucci
Arena.

Entering the game, the Gophers had gone 19 consecutive power plays without
scoring a goal and failed on their first chance in the opening period.
However, Emily Buchholz ended that streak at 4:11 of the second period with
her third goal of the season, on a shot from the top of the left
circle.

Jenny Schmidgall, the nation's leading goal-scorer, notched her 27th goal
of the season at 13:22 of the period on a 5-on-3 power play and Ambria
Thomas made it 3-0 a minute later, also on the power play.

Courtney Kennedy's shot from the right point, her ninth of the season, with
2:50 to play in the second period gave Minnesota a 4-0 lead.

Minnesota made it 5-0 when Laura Slominski scored from the middle of the
slot at 12:05 of the final period before Cornell's Jenel Bode broke up the
shutout with 3:59 to play. Kris Scholz rounded out the scoring with 2:02 to
play in the game.

The Gophers had a 40-15 advantage in shots on goal, including a 19-3
advantage during the second period. Alanna Hayes had 34 saves for the Big
Red while Minnesota's Erica Killewald made 14 stops.

The two teams meet again at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Mariucci Arena.
