I need reassurance. My 12 yr. old daughter broke her collar bone 5 wks ago.
She is on a boys checking team. She missed her check and hit the boards. The
Dr.says she can return to contact sports after 6 wks. There are 2 games this
weekend and that will be 6 wks. I guess I'll let her play but I am very
concerned. Has anyone had experience with this injury and return timetable?
The bone was not displaced.

Thanks,
Debbie

I have included some words of inspiration, hockey tips, and a downloadable
version of the hockey tips newsletter. Any input is more than welcome. I'd
like to add a section on women's hockey in the future, so please feel free
to give me your ideas.

thanks!

The Brooklyn Blades will be holding our third annual fund-raising comedy
benefit on Sunday, February 7th, 1999 at 6:00 pm at the Gotham Comedy Club in
NYC.

Scheduled to appear: Tom Shillue of Comedy Central's The Daily Show and other
comedians seen around town and on MTV and Comedy Central, including Rob
Paravonian (MTV, Comedy Central, Breakup Girl LIVE, and last year's benefit!),
Paul Sullivan, John Mooney, and Jason and Randy Sklar of MTV's Apt. 2F, and
your host/defensewoman Lynn Harris, a/k/a Breakup Girl ("Everybody's hero",
according to Time Out New York).

All proceeds raised will help send the Blades to Ontario, Canada for the
Brampton International Women's Hockey Tournament in April, 1999. (Last year
we beat a Canadian team there!!)

If anyone out there is from the Freeze, could you please contact me. I
seem to have lost the number for your contact person. We have a game
scheduled for 2/6/99, and we have lost our goalie.

Subject: Reporters who don't do their homework?

More than one source this season has talked about national-team players
Nathalie Rivard and Cheryl Pounder as being "rookies" or "making their
worlds debut".

Rivard, who is from the Ottawa area, played for University of Toronto,
played for Aeros for several years, and now plays for Mississauga Chiefs.
She competed in the 1992 world championships. Pounder, a longtime Beatrice
(/North York/Toronto) Aero / Junior Aero who also played at Wilfrid Laurier
University, represented Canada in the 1994 world championships.

Since many of the people reporting on the sport haven't followed it for
very long, it's unfortunate that CHA press releases are not more clear and
specific.

Both these Ontario players grew up in areas where strong competitive girls'
hockey programs have existed for a long time. Does anyone here know
whether Cheryl Pounder and Nathalie Rivard grew up playing girls' hockey?
