KENNEDY EARNS WCHA-WOMEN'S LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR

MADISON, Wis.„Junior defense Courtney Kennedy (Woburn, Mass./Buckingham Browne &
Nichols) was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association-Women's League
player of the week for her efforts in MinnesotaÍs 7-1 win over Minnesota State,
Mankato last week.

Kennedy set a school record when she assisted on five of the Gophers seven
goals, and was on the ice for six of the seven goals, in leading Minnesota to
its fifth consecutive victory. She leads Minnesota in plus/minus rating (+21)
and is sixth in the league in scoring by defense (11).

Kennedy is the second Gopher to win the award this year, joining Nadine
Muzerall, who won the seasonÍs first player of the week award.

I'm not sure if it's appropriate to talk about a store on the list but I
thought it might help some of the poorer people to know that I just visited
the website for the store from which I bought my hockey pants, and they've
still got women's TPS Louisville pants on sale for $50-60 US. If you want
to know where the store is, you can e-mail me at email@hidden (unless
someone can tell me it's okay to post the website here. I looked in the
mailing list policy and didn't see anything specifically about it).

While in Canada last winter, I managed to catch a few women;s college games
on TV! So the lack of coverage in the Great White North is very surprising
to me.

However, I am not surprised that it is nowhere to be seen in the US. (does
someone out there know otherwise?)

i've got a question about skates...
today i got my in-lines. i got nike ones because
they're more comfortable. they did have bauer and ccm
for cheaper, and those ones were exactly as ice
skates. i wonder if the reason those seem way too hard
and cut into my leg because of my legs being too
big??? i know i'll lose weight skating (among other
things i plan to do.) but what if you have very large
calf muscles? my calf muscles are huge, there's not
much fat to be lost on my lower legs. MAYBE 1 inch.
can you just not wear skates when you have really big calves?

The reason the CCM's and Bauer's are hard is because they require a break
in period. The same is true for ice skates.

Women's calf muscles attach lower on the ankle than men's. That is another
reason that skates take longer to break in for women than men. Skates
designed for women are cut lower in the back to accomodate the difference
in build.

It probably doesn't have anything to do with how 'fat' your legs are.
Everyone has different dinemsions. If your calves are big, that may
make your ankles smaller, therefore, a skate with more
padding/support in the ankle will be more comfortable.

Every brand is going to have a different fit, whether or not they
require a break-in period. It is alywas best to go with the skate
that is most comfortable right away. They should only become more
comfortable after they are broken in.

If anyone here on the list subscribes to this magazine, would you know
if they list an email address in the magazine or if they sell back
issues?? I'm looking for the Sept/Oct 99 issue and the May 98 issue. If
anyone has these issues and wants to part with them, please e mail me!

There are several makers of women's skates. From what I understand they are
cut differently around the calf to make them more comfortable for women.
These skates may work out better for you. I believe CCM makes some, maybe
the list could add more to this.
