The Northeast Ohio Women's Hockey Organization is now forming in Greater
Cleveland. We are seeking USA Hockey Registration and are putting together
Senior Novice, Beginner, and Rec level adult teams. Not only are we seeking
new members (5 practice rinks available including Kent State), we are seeking
other senior teams in the Midwest/Canada to play. Send any tournament
information for the year for Seniors at THESE LEVELS to email@hidden.
Interested players (any level) also send an e-mail.

Thanks
Lori

Hi there,

Does anyone know of non-affiliated owha teams and tournaments in southern
Ontario. I'm thinking in the London to Hamilton to Mississauga area.

Thanks

Do you mean teams which aren't OWHA-registered and tournaments which aren't
OWHA-sanctioned?

High school girls' teams, intramural teams at universities and colleges,
probably at least some of the intercollegiate teams, and I know of one
adult women's recreational league in Toronto and I think one adult women's
recreational league in Ottawa. I don't think I've heard of any
non-sanctioned tournaments in the last 10-15 years, but perhaps I'm a
little naive.

Why are you asking?

Hi, just wanted to share a humorous moment. Today my 10 year old daughter was
explaining to her teacher how it was difficult to have her parents always sign
her homework. "Like last night my mom was playing hockey, and my dad was at a
meeting". A boy next to her started to giggle. She said "What?" and he asked
"Your mom plays hockey?" and she said " Yeah, and so do I!"

I know the feeling! Just yesterday, I was explaining to my daughter's Girl
Scout that I didn't have time to volunteer with Girl Scouts as I'm a Youth
Hockey Coach and Travel Team Player.

Congratulations!

I have two children, who were both planned around the hockey season. I didn't
miss much, either time. I played pregnant (until 3 months) the first time at
the Western Shield. I was back on the ice exactly six weeks after he was born.
I was awfully shaky, though. I took him to our territorial championship when
he was 5 months old and won most valuable defenseman of the tourney! My coach,
who was the sports reporter wrote an great article about breastfeeding in the
dressing room starring me and my son. I keep a copy in my hockey scrapbook! I
didn't rebound as well after the second, though. I am having trouble taking
off these extra pounds and I am nowhere near close to winning any MVP awards!
..But maybe that is because our arena burned down and I haven't had a chance
to play much... Both boys have accompanied me to tournaments thousands of
miles from home as well as player development clinics that I ran (son #2 was 8
weeks old for this one), coaches clinics and various meetings. It is difficult
at times, but it can be done!

Yeah yeah i know i haven't posted in a long time, well since before camp i
think... Oh well.
Anyway, the Suburban camp was a blast, being the only girl was kinda fun. I
got special treatment for being so inexperianced, as did the boys who didn't
have any clue what they were doing. =)) My couches were super nice, one played
a few years pro, and is now teaching. One is playing for MSU, and one plays
for the Michigan K-Wings/Dallas Stars.
But now its time to start playing for real, and for me that means boys varsity
hockey. I'm not alone this time, my best friend is in this with me. Today was
the meeting to get information, having been ignored for the first few minutes
the couch asked if we were players. (Um, no, were here to meet our
boyfriends....grrr) then it was made painfuly obvious that we were the only
girls while he addressed the entire group.
I digress, . The first skate is tomorrow, and i
go back to being the only girl, cause my friend still needs to get her
equipment.

Wish me luck,
- -J
