GOPHERS TOP FOURTH-RANKED NORTHEASTERN IN PRINCETON INVITATIONAL OPENER

PRINCETON, N.J.--Jenny Schmidgall and Nadine Muzerall each recorded four
points and Erica Killewald stopped 32 shots as fifth-ranked Minnesota
defeated Northeastern 5-2 in the opening game of the Princeton Thanksgiving
Invitational.

After being outshot 5-1 through the game's first five minutes, the Gophers
took control and got on the board when Schmidgall fed Muzerall in front at
8:36, followed less than three minutes later by Courtney Kennedy's
power-play marker.

Minnesota got another power-play goal, this time from Emily Buchholz, just
1:33 into the second period and, with Schmidgall scoring her first of two
goals late in the period, took a 4-1 lead through 40 minutes.

Just 32 seconds into the final period, Schmidgall notched her ninth goal of
the season and the Gophers went on to their fifth win of the
season.

Minnesota was 2-for-8 on the power play in a game which featured 13 power
plays and 40 minutes in penalties.

The Gophers are in action again Saturday, at 4 p.m. CST, when they take on
tournament host Princeton. The game will be broadcast live by KKMS 980 AM.
