                    C.I.A.U. champs blank McGill 4-0

The McGill Martlets split a pair of weekend games in Quebec
University Women's Hockey League action.

The defending C.I.A.U. Champion Concordia Stingers blanked McGill
4-0, Saturday. The clubs were scoreless until the 14:00 mark of the
second period when Deana Huygheabart ripped a shot from the top of the
circle past McGill goalie Kim St. Pierre.

The Stingers grabbed a 2-0 lead just 21 seconds later when
Marie-Claude Allard picked up a loose rebound and found the back of the
net.

Concordia stretched its lead to 3-0 at 14:21 of the third period.
Corrine Swirsky lifted a shot past St. Pierre. The Stingers finished off
the scoring at 8:23 when Annie Boucher banged in her own rebound.

St. Pierre made 42 saves in the McGill net. Lisa Herritt faced 12
shots.

The Stingers remain unbeaten in the Q.U.W.H.L. with an 8-0 record.
They defeated U.Q.T.R. 8-0, Friday. McGill, 3-3-1, defeated previously
undefeated St. Laurent 3-1, Friday.

Just wanted to give folks a sense of the fun we had yesterday watching the
ECAC league game between the UNH Wildcats and the Princeton Tigers. First
off, if you ever are in Princeton, NJ, you should check out the Baker
Arena--the home of the Princeton Tigers--on the university campus. Very
neat place that looks like it was possibly a converted gymnasium built from
fieldstone. Princeton had won its first 4 games and was off to one of the
best season starts that they have had in a while according to the printed
program.
I did not keep a scoresheet because I did not want to be distracted from
concentrating on the game so cannot give you all of the detail on scoring
and penalties, but, before anyone had a chance to really settle in,
Princeton had already put the puck in the net at around 30 seconds into the
first period. Well, that apparently woke up the Wildcats who roared back
and scored 5 goals in the first period to make the score 5-2 at the end of
1. From that point on there was no turning back with the Wildcats adding
another two goals in the 2nd and another three in the 3rd to finish off
with a 10-2 win over the Tigers. While it sounds like a lopsided victory,
the game was actually very entertaining with a lot of end-to-end rushes,
great passing plays and hard-fought board work. Princeton had plenty of
opportunity to score on power plays, etc but could not put it past the UNH
goalie after the 1st period. Play got a little chippy at times but never
out of hand. The UNH team just seemed to play better as a unit and were
more consistently aggressive in going to the puck and setting up in the
offensive zone.
Overall, a great experience and thoroughly entertaining hockey. My two
hockey-playing daughters were thrilled and also convinced that ECAC women's
hockey had entertainment value and quality of play that was right up there
with the NHL. I could not have agreed more. So, if you are anywhere
around the Northeast USA/New England region, and want to take in some
entertaining hockey, check the ECAC women's schedule and check it out! You
can find the schedule on the Web at the following address:
http://uscollegehockey.com/schedules/19981999/w/
We are already trying to figure out how to get to our next game!

P.S. If you are interested in getting the box scores on the UNH-Princeton
game I just reported on, it should turn up shortly on the web at the
following address:
http://uscollegehockey.com/cgi/teamsched.cgi?season=19981999&gender=w&team=unh
where you can keep track of the UNH Wildcat record for this season. Just
click on the link 'Box' on the game line to see the scorecard. It's not
there yet for yesterday's game but should be turning up shortly. Go Blue!

Again, this year we are going with a complete package price (see attached). If
you are selected, this trip requires your full participation from Monday
