         London captures McGill Intermediate title

The London Devilettes proved this past weekend why they are
considered the team to beat among all Intermediate teams in Ontario.

The Devilettes, the 1998 Ontario Midget "AA" Champions, were a
perfect 4-0 at the McGill University-Mission Hockey Girls Tournament in
Montreal, beating Scarborough 5-1 in the Championship game, Sunday.

Megan Hunter, the games most valuable player, scored twice and
assisted on another.

The two clubs were tied 1-1 after one period. London led 2-1 at
the end of two periods.

London's other victories included a 7-0 win against Leaside, 2-1
over the Kanada Selects and 4-0 versus College Brebeuf.

Kanada Selects clinched the consolation title with a 2-1 win over
College St. Laurent. College Brebeuf won the "C" final defeating Peel
Storm 5-2. Leaside claimed the "D" division with a 4-1 victory over the
New Brunswick under-18 provincial team.

McGill scores late to tie UQTR 2-2

It was a fitting end to a home opener.

With 39 seconds to play, the goaltender on the bench and McGill on
a power play, veteran Kathleen O'Reilly beat Universite de Quebec at
Trois Rivieres goalie Stephanie Vinet to give the Martlets a 2-2 tie,
Saturday, in Quebec University Women's Hockey League action.

300 fans took in the game, McGill's first this season on home ice
following 12 road games.

The clubs skated to a scoreless first period. UQTR got on the board
first, 52 seconds into the middle stanza beating McGill goalie Kim St.
Pierre.

McGill responded less than four minutes later when Julie Hornsby
made a great move on Vinet and slid it in the open side.

The visiting Patriotes made it 2-1 midway through the period and it
remained that way until the dying seconds when O'Reilly, McGill's
two-time scoring champion, notched the equalizer.

It was the second time this season these two teams squared off.
McGill won the opening match 2-1.

McGill improves to 2-2-1 in league play. UQTR is 1-3-1.

McGill plays host to College St. Laurent this Friday at 7:00 p.m.
Defending C.I.A.U. champion Concordia provided the opposition Saturday.
Game time is 6:30 p.m. at McGill.
