Definite efforts are being made to jump-start girls' high school hockey in
Illinois. Last year we had three teams and preliminary interest has doubled
that.

The founding of the Midwest Girls' High School League has given teams a
forum to play.

If anyone on the list will be in HS next fall and is interested in playing
for this school's team, please contact me at email@hidden.

We are also in need of volunteer managers and coaches.

Finally, if anyone is offering a girls' high school tournament for next
year, please send me that information.

Keep skating!

go to Star Ctr or IceBound.

Subject: Title IX Lawsuit

Two St. Cloud State University (Minnesota) students have filed a class action suit in U.S. District Court over the school's failure to field a varsity women's hockey team. Lisa Marie Olson and Sondra L. Diaz-Arntzen are seeking compensatory damages based on their contention that the university has violated Title IX legislation. The University was offered $125,000 by the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission to start a program this fall, but have turned it down. The University had announced its intention to field a varsity women's hockey team for the 2000-2001 school year. There has been a women's club program at the University for the past nine years and the University has a two sheet Olympic size arena that has been in existence since the early 90's. The University has a Division I men's hockey program that participates in the WCHA.
The University contends it is a money issue and they want to raise the appropriate amount of money and be sure they have the appropriate facilities. Anyone who has worked on a Title IX lawsuit regarding women's hockey is requested to contact Lynn Olson at email@hidden with information.

The 2nd Annual San Diego Women's Hockey Tournament this past weekend was quite
a success, and even more importantly, a blast for everyone who participated.
Congratulations to the Polar Cats and the So. Cal. Rays 1 for taking the
trophies in their divisions. The Heartbreakers, who hosted the tournament,
express many thanks to all the teams that made the trip south to play in San
Diego this year and we hope to see you again at our next tournament.

Hi Everyone!

Is there anyone out there who was at the Rinko de Mayo tourney in
Rancho Cordova last weekend? Unfortunately, I had to leave Sun.
afternoon before the playoffs, so I wondered if anyone could tell me
who the A pool champions were? Thanks!
Annie
