Hello,

1.) If anyone out there would like to trade a US Women's Ice Hockey
Wheaties for a Canadian (we have a variety of women's hockey Cereal boxes
here) let me know.

2.) I have some complete sets of the Classic Women's Hockey from 1994, as
well as others that I have to sell or trade.

3.) I do have many autographed cards of the National players from both the
US and Canada. I would love to trade the US and Canadian players I don't
have. They would be Jane Robinson, Laura Leslie, Natalie Picard, Lisa
Brown Miller, Collen Coyne, Suzanne Merz, Cindy Curley, Michelle DiFronzo,
Shelley Looney, Jeanine Sobek, Beth Beagan, Christina Bailey and Kelly O'
Leary. I pretty much have doubles of most of the others so let me know if
you want to trade.

email directly if possible

Thanks,
Annette

Too late???!!!

I am 32, and jsut learned to skate last year!! In fact, we have one woman on
our team who is 48 years old!! She started to play 2 or 3 years ago. It is
NEVER too late!! :-)

Well, maybe too late for the Olympics, but never too late to play & enjoy the
game.

>A retired but proud "Beer Leaguer"

Ain't it the truth! We were in Toronto over Christmas, and my 11 year old
daughter who had only played in leagues was taken out by friends to play
shinny. After the first day, she was insatiable. She played shinny with
friends, with her cousins. We went to every rink every day at all hours.
She even had my 77 year old father in law go with her! We had to help him
climb the boards because the rink was locked. It is too bad that these
kids who only play leagues miss out on a lot of the fun of the game, and
only know the pressure. Of course, for Jess a day without skating is a day
without sunshine, but the different kind of fun and camaraderie of shinny
was a true revelation. To put down beer leagues shows a real lack of
understanding of the sport. Besides, from what I have seen of some of the
pros, even they are beer leagues at times.

sorry Debbie .....I would take you up on your offer but I'm too far away
to return those durn bottles for the deposit, eh? An besides......the Sam
Adams guys NEVER go on strike....LOL (remembering hot Manitoba summers with NO
beer!)

DISCLAIMER** Hockey is a sport of speed and skill. Beer drinking to enhance
speed and skill does neither...... unless consumed AFTER the game to maximize
the embellishment factor. Consuming
alcohol before engaging others in a game of hockey is DEFINITELY NOT
reccommended!

Subject: Roots?

Hi folks,

Well, after being at the Olympics and away from email for 3 weeks, I've
finally finished reading all of your messages (850+!!!). Some
interesting topics to say the least. I will write up my thoughts and
experiences on the games and the Games, but I have a question that maybe
someone knows - what's the meaning behind the Roots jackets/caps the
Canadian athletes and fans were wearing? They looked cool, but it must
have some inside meaning that I'm missing! Anyone fill me in on this?

If you're "busty" I would suggest Louisville women's shoulder pads. I
find them very protective and they fit me perfectly. I suffered in a pair

comparison. And, yes definitely get a pelvic protector instead of mens

Roots is a strictly Canadian company that was founded in the early 60's.
They started off by making shoes with heel lower than the toe. (I forget
what they called them.) From the beginning they were way cool. I must
have owned three pairs of the shoes even though they were ugly. I loved
the look then. I think I still have them, because the quality was so good.
Anyway, they continue to be a. Canadian, b. cool. I think that is what is
behind the wearing of the Roots. Whenever we go to visit family in
Toronto, we come home with a carload of Roots clothing. The green Roots
jacket with white leather sleeves is THE prize outerwear in our house.

As far as the Olympic team, I don't know if money changed hands or not.
Someone closer would have to tell you that.

I am another person who can attest to the never too late syndrome! I am
36, started playing roller hockey in my early 30s and I am returning to
it in my mid thirties after a 5 year hiatus. And hopefully, sometime in
the next year I will get out on the ice for the first time in my adult
life!

My question to everyone, is if playing coed is the ONLY option, what are
the things to look for in a good coed hockey team? I was lucky to play
pickup games before with guys who knew me and my husband, and while they
didn't cut me slack, they didn't run me over or resent me being there.
In fact, they thought it was rather cool this 5'4" woman wanted to
play! But I realise this was an IDEAL situation, esp. in light of
recent posts to the list.

Also, with age came glasses! I have to wear glasses now (contacts are
not an option) What are some recommendations as far as helmets, sports
bands etc..?

Also, thanks again for all the recommendations about skates earlier this
year. I ended up with a pair of Bauers that I really just love!

Heather
I played intramurals for almost two years withouth any major equipment. I
would suggest going to PLay again sports (assuming you have it in your
area) and buying some used shin pads and if you can afford it, some hookey
pants. Don't spend too much at first. THe shin pads are usually a
requirements and for good reason. the pants are nice because when you first
start you fall down a lot and the pants help to cushion you a bit.
Intramurals is usually not that ruff and I would not think that to start
with that you would need shoulder pads. If you start playing more
seriously there is always time to invest in getting more equipment and by
then you'll have a better idea what you want and need (i.e your expectation
of your equipment). FOr example, I play defense and after getting hit in
the chest with the puck with some guy taking a neast slap shot, I started
thinking seriously about getting shoulder pads. I ended up getting shoulder
pads that come all the way down into my pants to hopefully avoid getting a
slaphot into an unprotected stomach.
Anyway, I would not rush into spending a lot of money. Used equipment
ought to suit your needs and I am sure your budget at first.

Ok list members. I need help! :-)

I'm looking to purchase the following three Team USA related items. If
anyone can offer suggestions on where to locate any of these items it would
be VERY much appreciated! (no, the USA Hockey Store does not have these
things).

1) Nike white or black Team USA PRACTICE style jersey. These jersey's have
JUST the USA logo and the Nike swoosh on the front.
2) USA Hockey lapel pin. Pin MUST look like the one advertised on the USA
Hockey Store site. (the 3pc. set --item no longer available)
3) USA Flag headbands like the players wear under their helmets.

If anyone has any idea where to buy these things, please EMAIL me! If
anyone has an extra USA lapel pin, or two, they'd like to part with, EMAIL
me! :-)

Thanks all! :-)

Subject: roller hockey, no more

Well today I lost pretty much my only way of practicing for roller hockey. It
being spring break and the weather finally warm enough to do something, me and
my brother decided to play roller hockey. We went over to the road and put our
skates on, 5 minutes later Loveland Security pulled up and told us we were
trespassing. Before I didn't get much opportunity to play, living in the
boonies, and now they took away most of what I did have. Well at least untill
I can drive, og course with my luck I'd be trespassing on a parking lot or
disturbing the peace or something. Give me a break, we were playing roller
hockey on a very little used country road. Sure its private, but still we've
been playing, skating and biking there for 3 years now. And the guy in charge
of the building or whatever its called, never had a problem with it. He'd
drive by and say hi having fun? and we'd say yea, and he'd say thats good,
bye.
This city is already boring enough. Everybody thinks so. You can go out
and do something but no matter what you'll be home by 11:30pm. It may not make
sense, but I guess you'd have to be here. But they've take away everything,
first the swimming pond, then the biking, and I could live with that, but now
they're saying I can't play hockey on a road that rarely gets used, and the
people don't mind if we use it, I can't live with that. Usually I'm not the
type to go breakig rules and stuff, but this is different, untill the city
provides a bus system and a place to play roller hockey, I'm going to keep
playing there.
I guess they just don't understand, or maybe I'm not meant to play hockey.
Because it sure is starting to seem that way. The city doesn't have a big
hockey program, I can't find any equipment, and now I can't even play where
I've been playing 3 years. That leaves 6 weeks this spring and I dunno
probably 6 weeks this fall for hockey. 12 weeks out of a 52 week year. By any
chance do they do a program like foriegn exchange things only within the
states because I'd sure like to get out of this dump and into Minnesota. In 2
years when I get out of highschool, I'm leaving. Of course with my luck I'll
hate hockey by then. Well before I get too down or mad or whatever I'd better
stop writing.

Hey, you're not the only one who has to put up with this. I have never played
hockey in my life. My driveway is too rutty to skate.... My county is SO
cheap... they pave the roads with tar then thow gravel on top of it! It's
almost impossible to skate! The nearest rink is about 20-30 miles away....
my mom always complains about taking me to soccer practice (13 miles away),
there's no WAY she'll take me to hockey... So you know how I play hockey? I
have a nicely paved walkway from my front porch. It's about 20-25 ft. long
and 3-4 ft. wide. VERY small. That's the only place for me to play hockey.
I have almost no equipment, I don't even have a net to shoot at nor a regular
street hockey puck... I'll just skate up and down the little walkway wearing
my friend's old rollerblades, sweatpants, and my Devils practice jersey.....
just up and down... stickhandling a tennis ball.... I'll try to give myself
leading passes for pretend breakaways ("Here's Cammi Granato on the breakaway,
she shoots, she scores!!!!!!!"). I guess it's pretty pathetic, but it's the
only way I can play... And it's fun!

I do want to learn how to play hockey.... I know I won't be able to go to
hockey camps this summer, my mom would never take me and I don't have the
money for all the hockey equipment.... Maybe next summer, by then I'll have
my driver's license and enough money for equipment... In the meantime, it's
sidewalk hockey for me.

<< I guess they just don't understand, or maybe I'm not meant to play
hockey. >>

Everyone who has a love of the game is meant to play hockey.

Hey, let it all out if ya need to vent.... Get out that frustration! I just
hope you don't mean what you say.... After Team USA won the Gold, I was
watching ESPNews, and they were interviewing some players in the lockerroom
celebrating.... One of them was Karyn Bye... I don't remember exactly what
she said, but it something like this:

"To all the little girls out there, hey, you got a reason to play, a goal to
dream for now, the Olympics, this is the best feeling in the world, and hey,
even if you don't get there, you'll have a lot of fun trying, and if you do,
this is what you get."

EVEN IF YOU DON'T GET THERE, YOU'LL HAVE A LOT OF FUN TRYING.
