Oh man. My apologies. that should have gone only privately, not to the list.

You're not being dense, you're just generalizing. There are a lot of 5-11
women out there playing hockey. One of them is A.J. Mleczko and one of them is
me (I just said that to get our names in the same sentence!). My inseam is 33
to 34 inches, so I can sympathize with the first lister's complaint. I believe
that, as a rule, women tend to have longer legs than men of the same height
anyway, so it's even possible that an average height or slightly tall woman
might have a hard time finding pants that are long enough without being really
big around.

I, like LM, have found happiness with a Cooper girdle and recommend the style
(I think Koho now makes one too) to anyone -- short or tall, since the close
fit keeps the pants and pads from shifting out of position. Several hard falls
last season made me worry about permanent hip damage; since getting the girdle
this year, I've only hurt myself once in a fall. And I know it's not due to
greatly improved skating!

You're right about that. My 13 year old is 5'8" (about 5'6" of it is
leg). She has a real hard time finding pants long enough, and I
wouldn't say she's exceptionally tall - especially since she's still
growing fast :)

Is this something that starts as the kids get older? I do not want to
invoke the evil eye, but my daughter has had minimal trouble. She has
learned some great new gender-related words, but not much physical stuff.
She is playing peewee, and there was one blatant incident while she was
playing squirt. A friend's mom said that her team began turning on her
this year (squirt) and I was a bit surprised. I must say, I was expecting
more stuff and was pleasantly surprised.

LOL! Ain't that the truth! I've even asked some of my male player friends
why they do that and I've been told, "Well Jackie, We figure your water bottle

My 11 year old plays PeeWee, and when she has been hit once too often, she
draws the kid towards the boards, stalls a little, then bolts. Splattt!!
It looks like a Roadrunner cartoon and offers that adults in the stands a
moment of well-deserved comic releif. This is the old, if you can't catch
them, you can't hit them school.

Thanks for all the help for the player moving to Chicago. Now I'm asking
for help on behalf of a *goalie* in her 20's who is moving to Memphis,
Tennessee.

(If you're wondering how a team can withstand such an exodus of players, I
should explain that both these women were playing in the 16-team Hamilton
Women's League that my mother helps convene. I don't think they were on
the same team.)

Which District of USA Hockey includes Tennessee? Who is the Girls'/Women's
contact for that District?

Sue has been playing for most of her life, and she is a good goalie. She
wants very much to continue playing hockey while she is living in Memphis.
She would prefer to play on a women's team, but would also appreciate
pointers to any men's leagues or pickup hockey where women are welcome.

If you can give me any pointers to hockey contacts for Sue, I'll give them
to my mum, who will give them to Sue's mum, who will pass them on to Sue
when she checks in.

Thanks again!

The Canadian Women's Team wore Bauer pants.

I would think that the Canadian Women's Team at the 1990 World
Championships in Ottawa made the first "extreme" fashion statement
when they wore their pink uniforms. I, for one, am glad that those
didn't catch on!!!

She has 29" pads now and has had problems with hard shots to her thighs
when she butterflys - the pads do not come around her knees. She has knee
pads but they are not sufficient to protect a hard shot when she spreads out.
She plays on her High School Team and has injured herself due to this problem.
Last summer one 16 yr old put a shot to her head that collapsed her mask and
broke her nose. Her helmut is a Badger Elite with a heavy steel cage
(~$350.00).

One item about the leg size is that the measurement is not equal to the foot
to thigh measurement (like an inseam measurement). The size was based on
four parts (foot overlap, shin measurement, bent knee measurement, and thigh
size). The total for her is recommended to be 31" due to her style and the type
of games she plays in. The measurements for her were taken both by her goalie
instructor (a former profressional goalie) and sizings taken by a knowledgable
sales person who had her put on the pads during play.

Don't forget the WHITE hockey pants that went with the pink sweaters.

I actually saw a pair of white hockey pants for sale at Source for Sports
London last year...

If I'm not mistaken, the entire team hated the choices.

Has anyone purchased the Wheaties boxes with Team USA on them as of yet?
Here in SW Pa. nobody has them! I heard General Mills shipped them right
after the Olympics and they were to be on store shelves no later than March
2. Anyone found them yet??

Also, does anyone know where I could purchase a Team USA Nike practice
jersey like the team wore? I've been searching high and low but cannot seem
to locate one. Any help on this would be very much appreciated!

Subject: Spring/Summer Female Hockey Tournaments ?

My husband and I own a Spring/Summer "AAA" hockey organization for boys
novice-bantam but we are considering starting female teams starting with a
midget level team this year.
The problem is we have not been able to find any tournaments for girls.
There are 100's for boys ( we run one ourselves in Kanata) but there
doesn't seem to be any for girls. I think it is something whose time has
come. The girls see the guys having fun at the tornaments and wonder why
there aren't any for them. I agree.
If anyone knows of any tournaments between May and Aug. in Ontario please
Email me at email@hidden
Thanks, Donna

Without a doubt, he was probably one of the most skilled players I had ever
skated with up to that point in time, and could have pegged any point on
the net/post, but drilled it into my head instead. Yes, it was on purpose,
and to this day, he has never said a word of anything to me about it.

'Sounds like you need to buy her some better equipment. The newer pads
have wrap-around knee protection (as well as full-round calf protection),
and this is more than adequate when playing with Tier I and II men players.
I'm not too familiar with Badger's helmets, but I know that some look like
the pro-style helmets, but they're only made of the same plastic that
forward helmets are made of. Consequently, they collapse like a forward
helmet would if faced with that type of shot. Other goalie helmets are
made of kevlar and fiberglass, some only have the kevlar in the forehead
and chin area, in which case, they are the only areas which will withstand
such a shot. A full kevlar/fiberglass helmet should take that kind of shot
without collapsing, and I can attest to that, too. They're not cheap, but
you know what they say about having a $50 head (buy a $50 helmet)! Along
with the better brands of pads, they will custom make pads to the size that
is proper (longer thigh, shorter leg, etc). This is also a pretty pricy
item, but again, I consider it worth it.

All I have to say about helmets is I have already taken a few blows to the
head by college males, and I highly recommend Itech. I got the Profile
Senior for a little over $250 U.S. and it has worked like a dream so far! I
highly recommend it!
