I wanted to put out a final word on SkateNation's second annual Women's Ice
Hockey Challenge to be held September 18-20 in Dale City, VA at SkateNation of
Prince William, 25 miles south of Washington D.C. The tournament is for Senior
B/Rec level teams.

Cost of the tournament is $550 per team with a three game guarantee, and for
teams available a skills competition on Friday night. There are currently six
teams committed for this event and we can expand up to 10 or 12 teams.

Registration deadline is August 1.

For further information or a registration packet contact me by e-mail or call
(703) 730-8423.

Our County Parks and Recreation department has a rule that no more than
25% of the players on a team may come from outside of the community.
That's because the County paid for the facilities and subsidizes the ice
rental fees for the minor ice users. The minor ice users that have to
get outside players in order to field a team have made arrangements to
"co-host" the teams with some of the other communities that the players
come from. That way no one group of taxpayers has to subsidize
outsiders to use their facilities or reduce access for locals.

Ths issue with the community association not want to provide ice may be
one of access for exisiting teams and not one of female vs male. Your
note indicates that the association has 2 female rec teams out of 24
teams. I believe that the female to male ratio is not too far off the
average especially if you included the players from your team into the
total female registration. Our association fields 80 teams of which 3
are female and theirs enough girls registered thru the Tom-Thumb to Atom
ages to make up another 1 or 2.

My suggestion is to register the girls that live in the town with the
minor association as is their right. Then push for them to provide you
with the ice to field a rep team and draw the remainder of your players
from the girls on the two rec teams. It may make you weaker but will
help improve the level of play for the other girls.

Slam Hockey has a press release that 22 Canadian players from 8
provinces have been invited to a national under 22 training camp Aug. 3
to 9th. The only players mentioned are Wickenheiser and Botteril. Does
anyone have the rest of the list? And wheres the camp?
