And this is good advice. Remember, you don't need to replace carbos
until after 90 minutes. I suspect that this is 90 minutes *of exercise*,
so one hockey game won't qualify; in any case a lot of us have games
that don't even last 90 minutes of *clock time*. The reason some people drink
diluted sports drinks is that they taste better than water, so you drink more.

NCAA rules they cannot accept commercial sponsorships if they want to
continue their college hockey careers.

"..those excluded by the NCAA rules include Tara Mounsey, Sara DeCosta,

Hair? Bandana!

I used to have long hair and I used a bandana for every game.
But, you have to wear it like a "washer woman".That is, folded in half
just once. Don't roll it up and use it as a band.

I now have short hair and I still wear my bandana. It keeps the sweat out
of my eyes.

Good luck.

Eyebrow ring, oww!

Good luck with that too!

This was in my local newspaper, it was rpobably in most newspapers nation
wide, anyways:
"But the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, have been a ratings
disapointment. CBS has been giving advertiseres extra commercials because the
telecast has fallen short of its audience gurantees."

So if they knew they weren't doing very good, why didn't they try to fix the
problem. And the closing ceremonies, they showed some story about some guy
that supossedly everybody thought disapeared or something. And coverage of the
actualy closing ceremonies didn't start till like maybe 8:30 mountain time. In
96 NBC showed a good portion of the closing ceremonies. CBS didn't show much,
I liked watching the atheletes party in Atlanta, this time we got maybe 30
minutes of them, instead of like 2 hours. And last nights Late night coverage,
they were talking about their rock and roll highlights of the entire game and
how good they were. They got to day 4 or 5 and the screen went to that color
bar thing and then blank, so much for that. I wasn't impressed with their
wrap-up. But hey, at least NBC has them for the next 3 or 4 olympics (I can't
remember how long), sure NBC isn't the best, but they're better than CBS. ABC
would be better, because then ESPN would get some coverage too, and they know
what they're doing.

Stuff like the Olympics are scheduled months in advance. Think of a TV
broadcast as an aircraft carrier -- once oyu see the iceberg, it
doesn't matter how loudly you scream at the helmsman to turn it, it'll
turn only so fast (and not fast enough). Logistically, you have to do
your research, pull it all together, and hope you guess right. They
didn't.

Actually, the interesting part of what they said was that "She'll have 18
full scholarships to work with."

Whther it's she or someone else, isn't the number of scholarships big news?
I remember being told as recently as this last summer that there were
significant limits on the amount and number of hockey scholarships available
in the US universities. Is this a change in policy (NCAA?), or did I have
my facts incorrect previously?

Specifically, what I was told last year is that most of the money in women's
hockey is in the eastern prep schools, where there's no governing body like
the NCAA, and that the NCAA had significant limits on women's hockey money.

Can anyone fill me in on the actual story here?

Yes. LaFontaine is from Fraser, but I'm not sure exactly where
Vanbiesbrouck is from. There are also several more NHLers from the
Detroit area... And don't forget Shelly Looney (Trenton).

Then there's me, now hopelessly stranded in Atlanta and forced to deal
with questions like, "Flyers fan?" when people see my Red Wings jersey...

As the bench cleared and the players stormed the ice, I watched Smith give a big hug to the only
one left on the bench, a trainer. It looked like he was going to cry. I think he was choked
up.

>yeah, sure, maybe he felt that they got him there but what about the

I think that like the players, the moments after the win were a blurr, who remembers what you
say in those moments. Tueting didn't remember doing her little dance at the end either. He has
talked enough, in glowing terms about the players in later interviews.

Come on Zoe, give the man a break, he has devoted a lot of time and effort in making the team
what it is. Solid Gold.

It's always nice to see new fellow goalies out there. You will never regret your decision. Its
one of the toughest positions but very rewarding. However I want to warn you that you have
lots of company. I tried out for the national team this last May and there were at least 85 other
women goaltenders there too. You'll need to be persitant and go to a lot of goaltender camps.
The more you go to the better (if you have the time and money, go to both women's and men's
camps). If you are really good you will get noticed. Don't let up though - try to get contacts from
your camps and keep in touch with them. A little effort will take you far....Good Luck - Goalie!!!

Since Angela is still a student at Choate and not in college yet, does the rule apply to those
about to enter college? I believe she is a senior this year.

One of the women on Ana's team had an eyebrow ring. It seemed like the hole was constantly
infected. I don't know if it was from playing hockey or whatever, but I know Ana has trouble
with the pads on the helmet breaking her out unless she wipes them off after a game. I think an
eyebrow ring would be asking for trouble with the sweat and all that could infect it.

As far as your hair, you can band it, braid it or tie it up with a bandana, Ana used to leave
hers free until she now has a helmet that is not as tight as her old one and allows the hair to
get in her eyes. Now she pulls it back in a band.

One of the guys on my husband's team wears wire rim glasses. He took a bad
fall on the ice and the wire arm of the glasses cut into his temple. He
now has quite the scar, exactly the shape of his glasses. I wonder if an
eye brow ring might not do the same thing in a similar situation.

Hair on the other hand is no problem. Look at Jaromir Jagr.

The rule applies only if you are a senior in high school and have signed a
letter of intent to the college you are planning to attend. Once you
commit/sign that letter of intent, full NCAA rules apply. Hope that helped.

I've already trashed it, but the AP report said something about college
scholarships being in jeopardy if she appeared on the box. Although the
players don't get any money for this, Wheaties makes a profit and that's
what violates the NCAA rules.
