The game will actually start at 1 am pst.
CBS has posted that the coverage for Feb 17th will begin at 7am (even two hours after the east
coast delay).

I really have no idea what time to put on my VCR to tape the game. I agree it is really confusing

That actually sounds like a great idea! I am in the same position with a pair
of Bauer 4,000's that I got on clearance, got a deal I could not pass up.
I've tried them on a few times to skate, but like you, they absolutely killed
my ankles, so I'm still in a pair of Bauer Supreme comps that have hardly any
support left in them. I will be taking my skates AND Hammer down to the
basement later!

Hi! (I met you at Brampton - I'm Ann's sister)

It almost seems like good news, in a weird way, that people care about this
stuff now. On December 9th, the radio news that I listen to reported that
Angela James had been cut, in a way that implied that of course she was a
household name in Southern Ontario. Today I was flipping channels on the
TV, and found some kind of sports-chat show ("Off the Record" on TSN)
discussing the significance of the alleged trash-talking in Saturday's
game. Of course the existence of controversies feels unpleasant, but it's
also good to know that women's international hockey is of interest to the
Canadian public.

Disclaimer - of course I know that dealing with critical media and public
is an additional strain for a team, and I'm not wishing that on anybody.

This is not as crazy as it seems. I heard of a NHL goaltender (can't remember which one right
now) who used to break in his pads by running them over with a truck. However I would not
recommend this method to break in skates 8-)

no kidding, too bad there isn't access to a tv at school. If it was a
different day and I could drive I could stay home and watch it and only be
about 10 minutes late to my first important class (I have study hall first
hours every other day) but well life will go on, unless my tape runs out of
room, then I will be very very mad. Its going to be a loooong day at school
tommorow, sitting in hour and a half long classes wondering if USA finally
defeats canada for the biggest game in womens history, or if we'll take 2nd.
Well, let the best team win. I just hope it turns out to be USA.

My daughter, who is eight, pointed this advertisment out to me "Tommorrow in your Province: Now the REAL hockey begins!"
"The Province" is British Columbia's biggest daily newspaper. She asked me "isn't girls hockey real?" I told her that it was. I was so mad that I wrote the editor a letter; email@hidden., I encourage you to write him as well. Maybe, he hasn't been watching the olympic coverage to see that the woman's game is real too!

You can go to the skate person at your rink and have them pop out the
leather at your ankle bones, so that you don't have to take years off the
life of your skates by beating them down with a sledge hammer. There is
also this great material, I don't know what it is called, but two of my
kids wear it with their skates. It is like ace bandage with a gel
substance on the inside. It comes in a tube (like it is shaped in a tube)
and is about $18 and makes three ankle pieces. You wear it like an wrist
band around your ankles. Try the pro shop or a figure skating shop. The
stuff is great.

That was Arturs Irbe, who got new pads the day he needed them for a game.
He ran over them with the team bus.

Our Central Standard Time newspaper says CBS is showing the game at 7am,
that would translate to 5AM for pacific time. Then again, none of the web
sites say exactly what time! I'm going to set one vcr at 3am CST for CBS,
and another for 6am, and when I get up at 6:30am I"ll check them both & be
prepared to start tape at 7am. Personally, I think CBS and/or CBC should
make tapes available at retail, but we all know that won't happen.

USA 1, Canada 0

Ulion at about 2:30 of the second period. Shots on goal 19-14 for USA in
total so far. USA far superior, Canada look tired and disorganized, not
making any impression on several power plays. We're lucky to still be in
this one. We'll see if Shannon Miller has any gems to offer. Manon still
playing very well, she's the sole bright spot for Canada.

Still, we're in it, and I'm still up at 2:30 a.m.. Remember 1972 against the

I can't believe it, i just watched it on tv. How
disappointing. I watched it on CBC. After the game
when Team Canada's captain spoke, you could see it in
her eyes. Well, for those who read this and didn't
know, it was a 3-1 loss. There is a catch, USA was
2-3 and Canada 1-4 on powerplays, and the US had an
emptynetter. Does that say something?

Well, hopefully I'll have a chance to play in 4
years, and not have to get an American citizenship.
Canada will get it next time.

Gotta go get ready for school, boy am I gonna here
from all of the 1000 going for USA.

Final score from Big Hat:

USA 3, Canada 1

Canada played an excellent third period, but fell behind 2-0 to Looney's
powerplay goal. At the last gasp, Goyette scored with 4.5 minutes to go and
we had good pressure, but Whyte iced it with an empty netter.

USA deserving winners. Not much else to say at 3:30. CBC commentator Margot
Page sounded like she is backing herself for the Team Canada coaching job,
USA were better prepared and our heart couldn't overcome that. Thankfully,
the game was played intensely and fairly.

I'm depressed, but my wife is happy...

Here's the preliminary report from AOL:

[Gretchen Ulion and Shelley Looney scored power-play goals as the
United States defeated arch-rival Canada, 3-1, to win the first
Olympic gold medal in women's hockey.

After a scoreless first period, Ulion scored at 2:38 of the
second period, grabbing a loose puck and lifting a shot over the
glove of Team Canada goalie Manon Rheaume. Looney made it 2-0
at 10:57 of the third, tapping in the rebound of a shot by
Sandra Whyte.

Canada's Danielle Goyette put Canada on the board with her
tournament-leading eighth goal with 4:01 to play, scoring off a
face-off just 10 seconds after Team USA's Tara Mounsey was
penalized for body checking.

Canada pressed for the tying goal in the closing minutes, but
U.S. goaltender Sarah Tueting stopped two good scoring chances.

Whyte, who assisted on the goals by Ulion and Looney, iced the
win with an empty-net goal with eight seconds left. ]

Wendy asked for specific back exercises and some stretches. Instead, I'm

It will not only help you with those specifics, but many other things.

I beg to differ Jenna. Maybe it's not a major sport in California, but it
is in the midwest and the east. CBS's coverage is pathetic. Even it
weren't a major sport, the US women's team has made history and CBS should
be broadcasting live and complete. Instead, as of this moment, they have
not aired the game. It's 6:45 AM in Chicago. CBS said the game would air
starting at 6:00 AM local time, but guess what they are filling the
broadcast with local news and fluff interviewing Cammi Granatos aunts,
uncles and cousins.

They are now saying that they will broadcast starting at 7:00 AM. Which
means that unless they change their initial schedule they are not going to
show the game in its entirety because the broadcast was only supposed to
go until 8:00.

The US Women's team pulls off the coup of the Olympics and CBS as of yet
is not showing it, and probably won't show the whole thing. That is
coverage that stinks anyway you cut it.

I feel bad for you guys. We lost the game and I'm disappointed but at least I got to see it live. I would be furious too. If that ever happened in Canada there would be hell to pay. The CBC is very good to us in that regard. My sympathies to you. And congratulations, the US deserved to win today. They were very strong in their own end and scored when they needed to. Ben Smith also did a far superior job coaching his players.

Subject: Re: CBS Coverage - Pathetic!

Absolutely. By my rough estimate, CBS took about forty
minutes to show the last eleven minutes of the game, with some of the
following offenses:

1) A bit, with accompanying film, telling us that the biathalon was
cancelled. Whee, stop the presses.

2) No fewer than four cutaways for WEATHER reports, for heaven's sake! Would
ANYONE at CBS guess that just perhaps anyone tuning in to Olympic coverage at
that hour might a) not care all that much about the weather, and b) would sit
through the whole thing and might not need weather reports every fifteen
minutes?

3) VERY long pauses between action, knifing any dramatic tension in the
belly.

4) The complete omission of action between the 12 and 16 minute marks of the
third period, which in a close gold medal game is inexcusable.

Then again, there may be some of us that still believe the Olympics to be a
sporting event revolving around athletic competition. The Boston Globe had an
article showing that of your typical hour of CBS coverage, twenty minutes were
devoted to commercials, fifteen to fluff pieces and interviews, twenty-plus to
studio chatter, and an average of three and a half minutes of actual athletic
competition. The day we get our satellite dish so we can pull in CBC, I'll be
dancing.
