Subject: Women's Hockey Web Page Updates

Hi There!

As you might already know, I maintain a HUUUGGGGE web site for women's
ice hockey information. This e-mail message summarizes some recent
additions and changes to the web pages.

  1. I have registered a new domain name for my web pages. You can
access all of the old information that was on my web pages by
going to the new easy-to-remember web page at www.whockey.com .
Eventually the pages at the old address (University of Toronto)
will disappear, and everything will be moved to www.whockey.com,
so please update your bookmarks. For now, a lot of the information
is still at the old address, but you can get to all of it from
     www.whockey.com .

  2. I have added a chat page to my women's hockey pages. You can
go there to discuss anything on women's hockey, or you can
meet a friend there to chat. For now, it's located at:
       http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~andria/chat

  3. I've updated the Tournament web page to include all tournaments
in Ontario for the remainder of the season. From the tournament
page, follow the link to "Tournaments in Canada:"
       http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~andria/Tournaments.html

  4. I've been keeping a 1998 Olympic Women's Hockey web page.
If you have any information to add to this page, please
send it my way. I currently only have rosters for USA,
Canada, and Sweden. If anyone has the rosters for Finland,
China, and Japan, please e-mail them to me. The Olympic
page is located at this address for now:
       http://www.cs.utoronto.ca/~andria/Olympics_1998.html

 5. I have a web page that lists major additions to my web
pages and news in the women's hockey world. Please
stop by this page often. It's located at:
       http://www.cs.utoronto.ca/~andria/News.html

I have just started to put together a page where you can
list any annoucements for events in your area. It's at:
       http://www.cs.utoronto.ca/~andria/News.html

 6. I have added a page for the National Championship (CIAU)
for Canadian Universities. I'll send more details in
    a separate e-mail message:
       http://www.cs.utoronto.ca/~andria/univ/ciau.html

 7. I have added a page for the 1998 Canadian Championship
for club teams. I'll send more information later.
       http://www.cs.utoronto.ca/~andria/Int/Canada/Nationals_98.html

 8. See Marc Ouellette's COWHL page for information about the
Ontario Provincial Championship for Senior AAA club teams:
       http://www.dgp.toronto.edu/people/vv1/COWHL.html

All of the above links can be reached directly from the quick
index page at http://www.cs.utoronto.ca/~andria/quick.html

Happy Surfing!

Andria

From: Andria Hunter
Subject: Canadian University Hockey Championships

As I mentioned in my last message. I have added a web page
for the Canadian University Hockey National Championship at
http://www.cs.utoronto.ca/~andria/univ/ciau.html

The first-ever women's hockey CIAU Championship will be hosted by
Concordia University from February 26 to March 1st 1998. The 1998 CIAU
Championship will consist of 6 teams: one from the CWUAA, two from the
OUA, two from the QSSF, and one from the AUAA. There will be
championships within each region to determine which teams will compete
at the CIAU Championship.

Here is some information about the Championships in each of
the four regions in Canada:

  1. The championship for women's university hockey in
Canada West (CWUAA) will take place from Feb 12-15
     at the University of Calgary.
        Pool A: Lethbridge, Saskatchewan, Calgary
        Pool B: Alberta, UBC, Manitoba

  2. The championship for women's university hockey in Ontario (OUA)
will take place at Varsity Arena in Toronto from Feb 14-15.
The top 4 women's university teams in Ontario will compete.

  3. The Championship for Women's University hockey in
Quebec (QSSF) will take place Feb 13,15,18,20.
        Feb. 13 QSSF Semi-Finals - Sudden Death #3 @ #2
Feb. 15 QSSF Finals - Winner of SF @ #1 (Best of 3)
Feb. 18 QSSF Finals - Winner of SF @ #1 (Best of 3)
Feb. 20 QSSF Finals - Winner of SF @ #1 (Best of 3)

  4. The Championship in Eastern Canada (AUAA) took place at the
University of New Brunswick on the weekend of Jan 16. Saint
Mary's won the tournament by a 2-1 score over Acadia (in double
overtime), so Saint Mary's will represent Eastern Canada at the
CIAU National Championship. Other teams competing were St.
     Francis Xavier, Dalhousie, and UNB.

The Canadian National Championship for club teams in Canada will be
held in Calgary from March 19-22, 1998. It looks like the CHA has
started to set up a web page with information about this event,
although the web page currently only contains the rosters from last
year. Hopefully they'll be adding to it once the rosters for this year
have been confirmed. Teams from each Canadian Province and a host team
typically compete at the Esso Women's Canadian Hockey Championships.
http://www.canadianhockey.ca/cham/1998/esso/

Some provinces will hold Provincial Championships to determine
which club team will represent their province at the Canadian National
Championship. Other provinces will select all-star teams. Usually
the larger provinces are represented by club teams, and the smaller
ones by all-star teams (although Quebec is an exception to this,
as they are a large province that brings an all-star team).

The Provincial Championship for Senior AAA club teams in Ontario will
take place in Cobourg on the weekend of Feb 7-9. The teams competing
this year are Brockville, Mississauga, North York, and Scarborough.
You can look at the current league standings, and you can view the
Provincial schedule (with game times) on the COWHL web page:
    http://www.dgp.toronto.edu/people/vv1/COWHL.html
[See "OWHA Senior AAA Provincials" & "league standings" links.]

The Ontario Provincial Championships for all other divisions besides
Senior AAA will take place in the Mississauga/Brampton area from April
17-19 1988. Contact Pat Nicholls for more info at 905-791-2880. There
is no National Championship for these other divisions in Canada. Only
the Senior AAA division has a National Championship.

I am playing for the Mississauga Chiefs Senior AAA team this sesaon
(when my injury is feeling okay, that is). We are part of the COWHL
league. If you'd like to take a look at the page I have made for
the Mississauga Chiefs, you will find it at this address:

On the American University hockey front, the 1998 ECAC Championship
will be held at Northeastern University from March 14-15 1998.
Follow the links to "Women's League" from the ECAC web page at:
   http://hockey.ecac.com/
For current ECAC League Standings see:
   http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~hungerf/9798sta.html

The first Women's National Championship (US Collegiate) will be held at
the FleetCenter in Boston prior to the Men's Hockey East Championship
match on Saturday March 21st at 4:00 pm. A single ticket will let fans
watch both championship games. The women's final will feature, if
needed, a ten minute overtime followed by a shootout. The semi-finals
for the women will be on Friday March 20th at a Boston area campus
site. The likely four teams will be the ECAC league title winners, the
play-off champions, the next best ECAC team and Minnesota.

Other interesting news about which schools are curently offering
scholarships is available at:

Does anyone know when and where the National Championship for U.S. Club
teams will be held this year? If you do, please send me the date and
location so that I can add the information to my web pages.

Unlike the Canadian National championship that just has the Senior AAA
(or highest division), there are usually 5 divisions (Senior A, Senior
B, Midget, Peewee, and Squirt) that compete at the U.S. National
Championship.

Okay, that's all the e-mail for today (5 messages should be enough, eh!).
I'm off to my Mississauga Chiefs hockey practice now. We're trying to
get ready for the Ontario Provincials next weekend! The North York
Aeros are really strong, so we've got our work cut out for us!

Have a nice weekend!!

Well now that the horror of the pink uniforms has worn off, I think it
would be a nice item to have in my collection as regards women's hockey. I
have other jersey's as well. I don't think it is a beautiful jersey to say
the least. The players that have worn that pink jersey may think the same
thing as me by this point. (Andria can you help me out on this one?)
It is a piece of history.

Can I ask why you want one of those jerseys? They look ridiculous.

Yes, they looked strange, and were much criticized. But as collector's items,
I'd wager they are worth a *lot* of money. Scarcity drives up value, after
all.

To anyone on the Houston Sirens,

We will be playing against you in Las Vegas this coming Friday at
6:00 PM. One of our fellow players moved just over a year ago to
Houston and is playing hockey there. Her name is Betty-Ann. Is she on
your team?
