CANADIAN NATIONAL WOMEN'S TEAM BEAT FINLAND 2-0 TO
END 3 NATIONS CUP

Kurikka, FINLAND--Kim St-Pierre of Lasalle, QC
stopped 12 shots for the shutout as Canada's National
Women's Team beat host country Finland 2-0 on
Wednesday in the fourth and final game for each team
in the 3 Nations Cup round robin tournament.

Cassie Campbell of Brampton, ON and Nancy Drolet of
Drummondville, QC scored the goals for Canada. Canada
had 45 shots on the Finnish goaltender, including 19
in the second period.

Canada had already clinched first place on Monday
with the 4-3 win over Team USA, which was the second
title for Canada in the short three year history of
the 3 Nations Cup.

"It was a great team effort, although we had already
won the tournament, we played with great intensity
tonight", said Drolet, who was named player of the
game for Canada. "It was a good experience to help us
build towards the World Championship in March."

Canada finished the 3 Nations Cup undefeated at 4-0,
Finland finished the tournament at 0-4, while the USA
finished 2-2.

"Four wins was a great result, but more importantly
we worked on different objectives for each game",
said Canada's head coach Danile Sauvageau. "We think
the players learned new skills and now are more aware
of what it takes to play for Team Canada."

Canada finished the tournament scoring 16 goals,
while letting in 8 goals. Sami Jo Small led all
goaldtenders with a 0.959 save percentage, and a
goals against average of 1.09, while Kim St-Pierre
had the tournaments only shutout, recording 4
shotout periods. Cassie Campbell led all goal scorers
with 4, averaging a goal a game. Fiona Smith led the
tournament in plus/minus, finishing at +5, while
three other Canadians were tied at +4.

Canada will play four exhibition games in Quebec and
Ontario in late January, 1999 to further evaluate
players in preparation for the 1999 World
Championship which will be held in Finland.
