I always seen to get really bad blisters whenever I skate. I get them an
the arches of my feet. Could me flat feet be contributing to this
problem? Are there insole I could use? What's your advice for how to
deal with blisters?

Thanks!
Melissa

Ouch!!! Melissa, the most effective method of treating a blister
which has already begun, is to use Dr. Scholls' "doughnut" pads.
I think they are actually called "corn pads" or something, however,
they are readily available at all drug stores. They are circular pads
with a hole cut out of the middle (hense "doughnut" pads) Use the
larger sizes. You may want to use two pads stacked on top of each other
if nessessary. They have an adhesive which sticks to your skin. Place
them over top of your blister and cover these pads with white tape.
Then put your sock over it all

Good luck

Melissa,
Go to the local figure skating person at your rink, or figure skate dealer.
There is a new substance that is like gell on the inside of ace bandage
material. I forget the name of it, but it is great. It is about $18 for a
6 inch piece, but it is reusable, and we have had ours for at least 6
months. It is like a sock that pulls over a thin sock or stocking and it
cushions the vulnerable parts of your foot as though it were floating in
water. It is reusable, and my kids swear by it. Also, do not skate with
blisters. There is no dirtier place in the world than the inside of a
skate, and you are just asking for trouble. If you can't find this stuff,
try moleskin.

 To Whom It May Concern

I do realize I have subscribed to a women's hockey list. I do realize MOST
of the persons on this list are women.

BUT PLEASE if you are sending out e-mails such as the one I just recieved
about the amazing new double d cream that gives you that wonderfully huge
chest I don't care please do not send anything of the sort to me. I am male
and am in the process of starting a women's roller hockey team in my area.
This is my justification for being here.

 Your compliance is appreciated.

I am also having a blister problem, but its on both of my ring fingers. So is
that suggesting I need a different pair of gloves?

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if there were any women's teams
or
leagues looking for players in the Syracuse, New York area or the Newark, NJ
area.

You can post the response or e-mail me email@hidden

You may be overlooking the obvious - you shoudl have your skates checked to
see if they fit you correctly. When I learned to skate (almost a whole year
ago) one of the guys at the rink was kind enough to lend me a pair of skates.
They were a size 8. I got these huge ugly blisters - the rest of the details
I will spare you.

When I went to buy my own skates (afetr skating 3 times in those loaners - I
ended up with a size 5 1/2!! While the fit of your skates may not be that
far off, it is still a crucial factor.

I still skated with my blisters (in my new skates) but I put a band-aid with
neopsorin on it, until the skin healed. I put Moleskin over that, to keep
the Band-aid from falling off. Once the skin healed, I switiched to jsut
moleskin for a few weeks, then to just plain 'ol hockey tape. Until I
eventually forgot about the trouble spot. Problem resolved!!

It is VERY VERY important to keep antibiotics on it - especially if it opens
up and oozes. (Sorry gang!!) Clean it out with Bactine, or some similiar
stuff.

Good luck!!

Don't forget to check out Andria's web site...It has about all the
info you'd need.

        http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~andria/USA_College.html
has info on US colleges both varsity and club. Check it out, it's
growing all the time.

http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~andria/Team_List.html
list of teams in US girls/seniors/rec kind of teams. I'm a little slow
on my updates, but its a great resource to find a team or to find teams
to play.
