Here is a skating drill that you could do during open skate to help with
outside edges:

start from the goal line skate until the first blue line
at the blue line start one foot skating on the out-side edge of right skate
this will mean that your leg crosses your body, lean into it making a semi-
circle
cross over with your left skate and switch your weight to the outside edge of
this skate. Again making a semi-circle but in the opposite direction.
Continue switching feet down to the goal line.
Try to stay only on your outside edges and dig to keep your momentum
If you stop, push off and continue with the drill

Practicing controlled turns will also boost you confidence in using both feet
to maneuver and stop. The lead foot uses the outside edge while the trailing
foot uses the inside edge.

I hope this helps :o)

As a former competitive figure skater and current hockey player, the best
advice I can give you is to BEND YOUR KNEES! That will help all your
skating, not just your edges. Most people don't bend their knees enough.
I got sloppy the past few years and my coach helped me start skating
properly again and now I'm much faster and stronger. Another good way to
practice edges is to skate around the circles, both on one foot and by
doing crossovers. That will help you get more comfortable with your inside
and outside edges. As for the hockey stop, if you REALLY bend your knees
when you go to make the stop you'll find it much easier. Don't worry about
falling, you're wearing lots of padding! Good luck, Maura Grogan.

Last week the Canadian Hockey Association selected 160 players to be
invited to 3 camps:
   May 8-10 in Calgary
   May 22-24 in Montreal
   May 29-31 in Toronto

All players involved in centralization have been invited
automatically. CHA representatives will attend all camps and evaluate
players to be invited to a camp in October and then a World
Championship selection camp in January.

Hockey Association's Women's Programs. She can be reached by e-mail at
