I'm sure someone out there could update me on the recovery status of the
Detroit accident victims. Someone asked me how they were all doing last
night, and no one had a straight answer.
Thanks.

Konstantinov and the trainer have both awakened from there coma's.
Vladdy is not always completely conscious, but they are both well enough
to be transfered to the rehab center. If you want more info, e-mail me

Slava Fetisov was released from the hospital within a week and should make a
full recovery. The others are out of comas and are being transferred to a
rehabilitation hospital. The trainer, Mnastakanov, can write his name
(slowly) and is trying to talk again. Konstantinov is aware of his
surroundings and recognizes people, but had a worse brain injury and took
longer to wake up.
It will be months before either can walk or talk again (if ever), and
virtually every expert has said that Konstantinov's career is over. If he
can ever skate again, it will be a miracle.
The limo driver, Richard Gnida, had traces of marijuana in his blood.
According to Fetisov, Gnida fell asleep at the wheel and lost control of the
car. Under current Michigan law the worst he can be charged with is a
misdemeanor for driving without a license unless the marijuana was consumed
that day, in which case the DA can add DUI to the charges. Regardless, he
isn't looking at much jail time.
Hope this satisfies your curiosity - Konstantinov and Mnastakanov still need
everyone's prayers, poor men....

If Konstantinov skates again, I will not be surprised. Extremely estatic
for him, but not surprised. Since he is a professional athlete, he is
pretty fit. And he would need to use all of his fitness, I'd guess you'd
call it, to pull himself through. Hours of surgery is pretty brutal on
the patient. It wouldn't be the first time I have seen this happen, the
doctors give very little chance, if not no chance at all, for the
patient, and they pull through, mostly due to the fact that they are
athletes.
But then I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't skate again either. The
intensity of the injury was high. And he has gone through alot.
But, I wouldn't count anything out, even if the experts have. There are
such things as miracles.

Subject: USA vs Canada game during NHL All-Star Break
Message-ID:
It was reported in the newspaper a couple months ago that there were plans
in the works to have a Team USA vs Team Canada Women's Hockey Game in
conjunction with the NHL All-Star Game here in Vancouver.
I haven't heard anything since, so I was wondering if anyone out there had
any information about this, or did the plan fall through?
Thanks.
Alan.

Konstantinov's level of physical fitness is completely irrelevant to whether
he recovers enough to play hockey - his *body* wasn't particularly damaged.
His *brain* was bruised, and it's still unknown whether he will recover the
motor skills necessary to skate and play hockey at *any* level, let alone
well enough to play in the NHL. The only other NHLer who had a similar
injury was Link Gaetz, who crashed his car and went through the windshield.
He can walk, talk and skate, but his reflexes and motor skills never
recovered to the point where he was able to play at any level higher than the
ECHL.
The fact that he was an elite level in excellent condition probably saved his
life during the initial days after the accident, but physical strength and
aerobic fitness can't help his brain recover. That will take time. All that
Red Wings management is hoping for is that Konstantinov can be a husband and
a father again, not that he'll someday return to the blueline.

Hi all.
I was wondering if anyone had any information on the womens olympic ice
hockey team. A while ago someone posted that they thought Team USA was
going to play Team Canada in Minneapolis, MN, sometime in December. Does
anyone know if this is true? If they aren't playing in MN, does anyone
know if they are playing anywhere near Wisconsin? I would apriciate any
information, including e-mail adresses, snail-mail adresses, phone numbers,
fax numbers, or web site pages.
Thanks if you can help.

Hey Allen (& everyone else) - I just had dinner with my cousin who played
NHL before moving to Germany to play pro hockey there, and he told me that
the women were going to play, so I'm assuming he knows what he's talking
about! I can't wait to see it!
