 Hi!
Does anyone know anything about Deerwood, Brainerd, MN, and other womens'
hockey teams in that area? My team is entered in a tournament February
14-15 in Deerwood, MN, and my coach wanted to know how good this areas'
womens' hockey teams are.
                                  Thanks,

Hello all,
I am here with a petition update for the 2nd day of "soliciting"
names. I got 90 new names today! Thus tripling my day 1 intake, for a
total of 120 names. Please, do all you can to get more people to
"sign" the petition.
In case you haven't heard about the petition, we are trying to
get the women's national ice hockey championships in April broadcast
on a TV Network. If you would like to participate, please e-mail me
with your full name, age, location, and e-mail address.
By the way, I e-mailed ESPN, ABC, NBC, and MSG Network
(broadcasts to NJ, NY, and CT) with info on women's ice hockey. All I
have received is a pre-made e-mail from NBC that I'm sure they send
to everyone who complains. Oh well...we need MANY more names! Do all
you can to get them!!

OK, you asked for information, so you are definetely going to get a lot o=
f
info!! We have applied for Varsity status, and although it was rejected,=
 I
predict being Varsity in 4-7 years. We don't currently have a summer cam=
p, but
the head men's coach is talking about hosting a women's camp.

We do have a very competitive club league called the CCWHA. Real origina=
l,
huh? We play against U of Michigan, Western Michigan, Ohio State, U of
Illinois, Lake Forest College, Bowling Green, and U of Wisconsin.

We currently have 2 teams: an 'A' and a 'B' team. The 'B' team is the
developmental team for those who have less experience. Most players on t=
hat
team have never played before. The 'A' team consists of players who have=
 had
under 1 year of play (with a lot of natural talent) all the way to 15 yea=
rs of
experience. First and foremost, both teams act together as one club. We=
 raise
money together, and also make decisions together. Any full time student =
is
allowed to be on the team, undergrad or grad student. These are our team=
's
rules. It is a league rule, but everyone has 2 years to comply. This ha=
s
allowed teams to accept faculty, and any other. It's not really fair, bu=
t
until the rule goes into effect, there isn't anything we can do about it.

We usually play from mid-October till Spring Break, which is the first we=
ek of
March. This year we didn't have practice after Thanksgiving Break becaus=
e we
do not play during finals, and we would have just one week left anyway.

This year we are holding the League Championships. It consists of all te=
ams
playing games over the course of a weekend. If you have any interest in =
seeing
this, it is being held the weekend of February 21-23. If you want to com=
e, I=D5m
sure it could be arranged. I am from Marquette, and I think a couple of =
my
friends might be coming down.

Here is the clincher: Our practices go from 6-7:30....

Christina Patterson, Coach 517-349-7558,

All of our coaches are volunteers. Ellie played 4 years at Princeton, an=
d was
Co-Captain of the team when they won NCAA. She also stayed there to coac=
h for
a year or two. Christina played (the same) 4 years at Cornell. Tim is a
student here at State. He has played all of his life, and could have pla=
yed
for the guy's club team (which is the guys who don't make the Varsity tea=

they're pretty good), but decided to coach our team instead.

Hope this all helps. Sorry it went on for so long. We are very proud of=
 our
club, and our accomplishments.

Hope to hear from you soon!

some compromises we must make to play such a great sport!

I hope you ladies kick Lake Forest College's butt! When I was at Lake Forest

the only team we were able to play against was LFC!

Message-ID:

WVBR-FM 93.5 in Ithaca has decided to broadcast the remainder of Cornell's
women's ice hockey home games. This is a business decision that WVBR hopes
will attract listeners. I realize that there is a petition drive on to get
the major networks to transmit the world championship. However, before we
learn to walk I think we must also crawl. That means showing those outlets
that advance women's hockey a measure of recognition and support.

In addition to sending petitions to the majors a little e-mail to the locals
displaying that their efforts are not unnoticed would be helpful. If you
agree you can e-mail
WVBR at email@hidden. The sports editor's name is Mark H. Anbinder. If we
can convince these outlets that it is in their best interest to broadcast
women's ice hockey they will be less reluctant in the future. "I Love Lucy"
still plays on the market because they can sell ad time. Business are
composed of people and like people act in their own best interest.

Hi! I should go to MSU! I play drop-in hockey at 5am every Tuesday
and Thursday...I never thought I'd be able to do it (I'm not a morning
person!!!), but whoever said you get used to it is right. :) I'm just
a beginner at hockey (and addicted already, I might add:), so I have to
take ice time when I can get it.

Anyway, I'm in Grand Rapids, MI. I was wondering if there was any women's
teams anywhere close to Grand Rapids, or is MSU the closest? Also, by
chance, might there be someone one the list from G.R. or close by? There
don't seem to be many women hockey players around here...maybe they're
hiding. :)

One last thing...does anyone have any addresses (snail mail, e-mail, or url's)
for companies that produce women's hockey equipement? I'd like to get some
catalogs.

Thanks,
Wendy

If you're looking for a Michigan school to play for, Michigan
Technological University has a womens' club team, and will probably upgrade
to varsity status in the next three years. There is an A and B team, and
they play in the circuit of about eight local womens' and girls' teams as
well as attending two regional tournaments and usually at least one other
one. They also scrimmage against the mens' intramural teams. It is located
in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in Houghton. Also, the local hockey
association recently added a girls' midget travel team. So, if you're 19 or
under, you could play a year with the Keweenaw Wings(K-Wings for short).
I'm the goalie. Even though it is the first travel team from the U.P., all
of the girls' on it have played for at least three years. It's really
competitive. You can get more information on the team at my homepage, there
is also a link to the MTU Womens' Club Hockey Homepage on my page. It' s
located at http://www.angelfire.com/mi/perks
Another option would be to go to Northern Michigan University in
Marquette, MI. They don't have a club team, but the university hosts a
womens' senior travel team that goes all over the place. They travel to
alot of tournaments in Canada and go downstate quite a bit as well. They've
won almost all of their tournaments so far this year(they can't beat us
though!). There is no homepage for the team, but if you want a contact I'm
sure I can find you one.
 Well, that's about it.

                                      Good luck,
