Lyle,
Girls tournaments are a lot of fun. Girls have a different perspective I
think than boys do, so you see a lot less fighting etc, although it
happens. Most do want to win, but it should be kept in perspective.
We went to a peewee tournament 2 years ago in Peterborough, and won the
final against the home team. That team was so gracious, they cheered us
and made a bridge for our players to skate under as they left the ice.
That was the epitomy of sportsmanship and taught me a wonderful lesson.
In the Canadian Hockey Association Rule book, there is a section at the
beginning that recommends an announcement be made before every game.
This announcement welcomes everyone etc. In the 2nd paragraph it also
states: "These are young hockey players who are performing here
(Tonight/Today). They are friendly rivals as members of opposing teams.
They are not enemies. etc...
Wouldn't it be nice if they actually read this!

Hi Kelly,
My daughter's high school team is competing in that tournament. I will
see if I can get you the information you need. Sudbury (Ontario) has 8
high school teams and I think most of them are going. My daughter's team
is the Marymount Regals, and they are the top team here.

Kelly:
The Canadian Tire Classic will run Feb. 10-12 at the Ice Gardens
at York University. There will be a maximum of 80 teams up from 60 last
year. There will be 4 divisions - ranging from the top teams in the "A"
division to the beginners in the "D" division. The cost is $425 per high
school team.
The Ice Gardens is a 6 pad facility completed in Sept. 96.
The person to contact is Bruce Tennant who runs this excellent
event. You can try these numbers: 1-416-579-1560
fax: 1-416-769-1146
If you can manage to get your team registered then I hope you
can contact me there. I am one of the coaches of the Marymount College
Regals and are entered in the "A" Division.
Good Luck
Dave Huculak

-tournament starts 7:30pm Thurs. Feb. 27th and ends by 4pm
Sun. Mar. 2nd
-tournament fee only is $139, or you can get a package deal of
tournament & hotel room for $185 triple occ., $199 double occ., or
