Sleep debrivation has finally taken its toll. The previous posting seems
unclear to me, the writer. My daughter plays on a boys team. Thats
better. I'm going to have to speak to our scheduler about those early
morning games.

girls I have always played with gys in all guys houseleagues. The girls have
a different attitude and always congradulate the losers. The parents aren't
tough at all I think maybe because the quality of game is very low. Our
coach is very supportive even when we are losing badly. Though this is all
houseleague.

Congratulations and Good Luck on the launch!

I'm so excited about your magazine -- I love the idea of women the world
over learning more about ice hockey. I think it's wonderful!

Looking forward to reading the first issue ...

This topic has been going on for some time... I know Dave Barrett who
initiated it and my hat is off to you Dave! It is so true that there is
sexism in the sport. In Northern Ontario, the ratio of boys:girls
playing is lopsided as it is everywhere. Consequently many girls are
playing in boys systems or in girls systems who play against boys teams.
Since girls teams are not allowed to play with body contact in any
level, those in Peewee and up are often accused of not "really playing
hockey"; as if body checking is the only criteria for the game! My
daughters both played on a boys recreational (non body contact) peewee
team last year, and the comments from some of the opposing coaches, one
in particular who shouted "get that b#@*&!", were discouraging. This
year our girls league is playing a lot more boys teams and so far the
results are positive from the Bantam age group and down. One boys team
we play is happy to play the girls teams because the coaches say their
boys are playing better. Their skating and skill are far more apparent
and needed in the no contact game. They will be playing a tournament in
Quebec where the rules allow no body checking from (I think) Midget and
lower. So this is an excellent way for them to prepare for that. AND I
am happy to say that the girls teams are very competitive against boys
in their own categories. Yesterday our Peewee A team, the Skeeters, beat
the previously undefeated "#1" team in the Regional Houseleague Peewee
Division (boys) 4-2, and it was an excellent game enjoyed by ALL, with a
total of only 2 penalties per side.

Brown continues to roll handing Harvard a 10-4 loss on Saturday.
They came back and played a hard fought, close checking game against a very
good Northeastern team on Sunday. Brown came out on top of that one with a
3-1 win.
Across town at Schneider Arena, Providence dropped a 6-1 decision
to Northeastern on Saturday. They rallied back on Sunday for an 8-5 win
over Harvard.
