Well all, I was at a hockey excursion in Washington D.C. this weekend
so I was unable to post Day 3's results. However, I am happy to
report that I received 112 new names, bringing the grand total to 242
names. I haven't even added in the names I got over the weekend yet!
Keep the support coming, and keep spreading the word...

Again, if you are living in some kind of a vacuum and are unaware of
this petition, e-mail me your name, age, location, and e-mail address
for a campaign for a major tv broadcasting company to show the
women's national hockey championships this April.

Did you see any CCM women's skates? I've heard/read they are supposed
to come out with a high-end line sized for women, and I'm really
     interested in trying some on!

HEY JEANNE...I was at the Montreal show and saw all the new lines of
female hockey gear. There's a lot of new stuff about to hit the
market. Check out the March issue of Women's Hockey magazine for a big
feature on all the new lines of female gear, plus photos.

Hi,
I have been lurking on this list for some time, but figured that since it was left to Shannon (goaltender of the esteemed competition) to plug our team, it was time to for me to say something.

The Michigan Tech Women's Hockey Club started about three years ago, growing out of an already strong women's intramural league. We do have a strong potential for going varsity in a couple of years. I am guessing that we are between high "C" or low "B" in terms of skill. Like most collegiate club teams, we also run the gamut from "newbies" to those who have been playing pond hockey with their older brothers since they were old enough to stand up. We have somewhere around 30 members.

Our biggest problem is our location. We are too far north to participate in the CCWHA, as much as we drool at the prospect. The closest college teams are probably in the Duluth area, but I think there would be a noticible skill difference there (as in, they would trounce us). So our only games thus far have been against the GROWING number of girl's midget teams and the guy's IM teams. There is a rumor that U of Mich is supposed to be coming up here in March, but I'm not too sure.

Anyway...if there is any team that would be willing to come up here, we could put together at least a three game scrimmage against us and the aformentionted midget teams. Alternatively, if someone down there could get us a game or three against a couple of different club team's down there, I think we could be talked into travelling.

Just to let everyone know we exist,

Kerstin Henry

If you are a USA Hockey registered team...one word of advise: Make
sure the tournament is sanctioned by MAHA/USA Hockey. A call to the
USA Hockey Registrar in Minnesota would confirm this. I don't have
his number, but his name is Gerry Brown. There have been problems in
the past up there if a certain someone is running it,...so make sure
before you go. There are a few Minnesota Midget teams in areas where
there are no high school programs - whether or not they are going I
couldn't tell you. Ask the person running who else is in it - and if
they are sanctioned. Good luck. Beautiful area up in Deerwood (my
old stomping grounds way back years ago).

Folks: I recently made an erroneous conclusion and by virtue of having
stated it, created a flap amongst those it pertained to. My assumption
was that The Blue Diamonds, a Northern CA Girls Squirt team, would liked
to have had a chance to go to Boston for exhibition play in April. The
coach of that team, Chuck Collins, has informed me that this is not the
case. Also, the posting in which I spelled out my conclusion was
incorrectly attributed to be the writing of Mr. Collins. That also is
incorrect.

Mr. Collins and his players, as well as the parents and players of the
Southern CA team that mistook my posting and conclusion to be that of
Mr. Collins, have my sincere apology for the misunderstanding I have
caused. It is my hope that all involved will be able to clear the air
and go on with their business as in the past.

A number of people have posted me personally on a variety of topics
pertaining to Girls/Women hockey issues. It is important that they
understand that some of what they send gets shared with others in The
Alaska Firebirds Hockey Association. If for some reason you should not
want your post shared please let me know.

Those of you who have asked for information about our organization will
note that when I have posted you on topics that require confidentiality,
I have asked for it. Please ask for the same when you require it.

Thank You,
Lyle Anderson, Alaska Firebirds

Does anyone know if there is any womens hockey in at UBC or in the BC
area? I will be possibly be returning to graduate school at UBC in 1998
and am looking for a place to play. I have heard that UBC has a team,
but have not been able to find much info on it. Any info would be
greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Shannon

I'l check on the CCM women's skates for you. I'd be interested in
trying some also, I find that the men's are too wide and don't offer
enough ankel support.
