I was listening to Dan Rusanowsky and Drew Remenda, in general excellent
announcers, broadcasting the San Jose Sharks a few games ago, and Drew started
dissing Brown University. He wasn't serious about it, but since I'm a Brown
alum I fired off an email to them saying that Brown was a great school, and
asking them if they knew what *two* Brown hockey players would be playing
on the U.S. Olympic hockey team in Nagano. So Dan sent back an email
saying he'd ask Drew that question on the air the next game. Then the
next day he emailed again, saying "What two players are you thinking of?
Is this a trick question?" So I emailed the answer back, and sure enough
he asked the question on the air last night, remarking "This is a trick
question".

Well, yeah, Dan, I suppose it is. We all know that the only *real* hockey
players are men. No one could possibly think that women hockey players
are serious athletes who are working their butts off to try to bring
home an Olympic gold medal. Nope, they're a cute little sideshow, not
real hockey players. They're not Olympic ice hockey players at all.

Grrr. I can understand that Dan might not know who's on the US
women's team, but I thought he'd be able to figure out what the answer
had to be and look it up, especially because, as Dan & Drew are fond
of remarking, the US team's star forward is Cammi Granato, whose
brother is a Shark, and also because Dan & Drew have been broadcasting
ads for the US-Canada game next month at the Sharks' home arena. Grrr.

Just in case you're wondering, the email address of Dan & Drew is
email@hidden.

Hi, everybody!

The new issue of Go, girl! includes a feature story I thought you might
find interesting. It's a Holiday Gift Guide -- but each gift idea is
paired up with a fitness tip or exercise to help get everyone through the
holidays feeling their best. Lots of good stuff in the News section, too.

Happy holidays!
