I was given the following address for people to write to Mr. Gentile so that
he can be made aware of our interest in seeing coverage of women's ice
hockey.

Thank you to everyone who sent me information re. "Shopping Around".
The response was great, and I am looking forward to going out and buying
some gear now!

Are there any Australians in the mailing list? I'm just curious about
how the ice hockey is going there now, especially after the federal
government cut all funding for the sport last year. And also since I'll
be back there in a month or so!

Christine.

Subject: Wisconsin teams?

A friend of mine is relocating to eastern Wisconsin (about 1-1/2 hours
north of Milwaukee). Does anybody out there know of any girls teams
(12-U and 15-U) within a reasonable commute? If so, please e-mail me
at email@hidden :)

Subject: USA Hockey W.Director- Change? elected or appointed??????

In recent months I have heard some talk about possible changes in USA
Hockey in respect to the election of the Women's Director's position.

From what I understand, USA Hockey is considering replacing the voted-in
Women's Director's position with an "appointed" council.

Personally, I have concerns with this. I think that the position, which
just happens to be voluntary (!! Goodness knows why!), should not be a
political appointment. In my experience, when someone is politically
appointed it usually is a person(s) that has no real desire for the
duties/job, but is rather some sort of a "thank you for your support of me"
reward. Do we want to have some so-called "council" representing the women
in USA Hockey or do we want to have someone who has the love, sweat and
desire to grow the sport!?!?!

Personally, I believe that our current director, Karen Lundgren, has made
significant improvements in women's hockey in the last few years and has
been watching/working for our best interests within the USA Hockey
structure. I don't think a "appointed" persons/council will have that same
dedication and interest in developing Women's hockey. Also, by voting the
person in we can also vote someone out at the end of their term if our
needs are not being met.

And as a side note, I also hear that USA Hockey is not sending Karen
Lundgren to represent us at the Olympics, but rather a selected group of
people who are less connected to the sport than probably you and I. Does
this seem a bit odd to you or what? Maybe it is time we wrote some letters
telling USA Hockey how we feel about any/all this. I am sure they would
love to hear our opinions. I plan to.

My 2 cents for today-
