Can anybody tell me which high schools on the South Shore and down into
Bristol and Plymouth Counties have girls' hockey teams and whether they are
varsity or club teams? Thanks much.

Subject: Question for list on the newsgroup

Hi all!

I need advice from the interested people on the list here.

I created the alt.sport.hockey.women newsgroup almost a week ago. I have
received a couple of e mail messages from people wanting to know if they
could post 'field' hockey questions-info to the group. The group does not
specify "icehockey" in the name so I did tell them it was OK. Do you think
I should have named the group alt.sport.icehockey.women to specify what I
intended?
I could resend a control message to create an icehockey.women group or
maybe just change the 'charter' of the group, in a post, to include ALL
forms of women's hockey. I'm leaning toward alt.sport.icehockey.women and
creating alt.sport.fieldhockey. for the other parties. I don't think a
group name can be changed once the group is created. Any suggestions or
opinions??

PS. E Mail replies ONLY!! No list posts!! Thanks! :-)

Personally, seems the subjects are too different to have field and ice hockey
on the same list. Maybe changing the name IS a good idea. There is actually a
Georgia Tech newsgroup on field hockey (git.fieldhockey.net) but I didn't
look at it to see how willing they are to talk about extracurricular groups.

Does anyone know if there is women's social hockey team in or around
Abbotsford, BC? I know that ringette is available, but I haven't heard
anything about hockey.

Thanks...

Christine.

Christine:

There are 49 teams in the Lower Mainland Female Ice Hockey Association. The
closest team to you is the Senior AA Langley Zambonis, the closest Senior
AAA or A team would be the teams in our association. email me at
email@hidden if you are interested in any of the above teams.
The only other women's hockey available is at 8 Rinks, and unlike the LMFIHA
teams, they have no coaches or practices.

Just an amusing little story about a supportive husband...Wanted to know if
anyone else has had a similar thing happen : )

I had just come off the ice Saturday night after two hours of pick-up
hockey...I was tired and dizzy (from an inner ear problem). My husband,
who doesn't play, had been watching the last part of the game, and when I
left the ice he came to the dressing room to let me know he was there.
Phil is very supportive of my playing hockey, and he likes to help me out
(I just started playing this year and sometimes I need all the extra help I
can get). : ) I started taking off my gear and tossing it in his
direction...He wiped my skate blades and packed my equipment into my bag.
I said good night to the guys still in the room, picked up my stick and
followed my husband (who was carrying the bag) out of the room. Two of my
team mates were in the corridor. Rob smiled at my husband and called him
"Bag Boy", and Christine asked where she could get one. I suggested that
everyone needed one. It was done in jest...This is the way we communicate
with one another (our rule on the ice is that you can only be cruel to your
nearest and dearest - this includes name calling, checking, and
harrassment). I think Phil was a little put off by all of this. He felt
it was a bit demeaning...after all it's just a pick up game among friends,
nothing competitive at all, so why not have someone who comes to pick you
up hang out in the dressing room and keep busy by gathering gear while
chating with everyone else? Has anyone else had any similar stories of
supposed role reversal where people aren't as accepting as they could be?
