Hi Chuck,
Please don't send replys like this to the whole list! This belongs to Ronda
only and not to all of us. This is just time-consuming, nothing else, the
list is for information and discussions.
Please take the adress from the "FROM" line in the Header and copy and
paste it to the "TO"-field in your email program.
regards, Nick

I for one am happy that hockey has not caught on like football and other such
sports.
The arrogance level in hockey is not even close to the amount of other
professionals.
It's nice to still have a few sports heros that are not on the news during
segments not relating to sports. Nobody gets their ear bit off,you don't see
Pavel Bure running around in a dress with tatoos all over himself claiming to
"marry" Vancouver, and I can't remember the last time I saw a NHL player
getting busted with 12 pounds of crank in the truck next to the arsenal of
weaponry in the bed.

hail hail loprofile hockey!!!!

Press and glory? Team CA has recieved no press that I can recall and the
only glory we've had was when we beat Alaska at regionals. CAHA is trying to
expand women's hockey in the state using Team CA as the BEST players in the
state to compete at regionals then Nationals. Everybody in the state should
play on an inhouse or travel team but team CA should be the ultimate goal...
the all star team of all leauges. By developing a team competitive with team
CA in our own state you are depleting many of CAHAs goals and stunting the
growth of women's ice hockey.

Thank you very much...

I agree! I would also like to make two points. First, Chuck didn't you
have your girls at the tryouts in Lakewood??? Does this mean that you
traveled to LA, for the Team Cal tryouts for fun, or didn't your girls make
it? Also this seems to be allot like last yr., let's bash Team Cal, again!!!
Shouldn't we be developing grassroots teams, and working together through
out the state. The girls just want to play hockey. They want to play with
girls. We should be concentrating on setting up more teams, not bashing.
The boys have the 'AA' and 'AAA' teams, to move up to, in Cal. there is
Team Cal.

Subject: Hamilton, Ont: Women's Rec League registration
Message-ID:

On behalf of my mother, I'm passing on the registration information
for the women's recreational league she helps organize in Hamilton,
Ontario. My mother doesn't have direct e-mail access yet, but I'd be
glad to pass on any questions, comments, or requests for registration
forms, if you write to me at email@hidden

Registration time is here for the fourth season of the Hamilton
Women's Recreational Hockey League. Our league welcomes female
players age 20 and over, with or without hockey experience. Complete
hockey equipment is required. Competition is held in two tiers, based
on calibre of teams.

Games are played on Sunday evenings from October to March at
Wentworth Triple Rink on Main Street West in Hamilton. We will
wind up the season with our Senior Recreational and Senior House
League Tournament on the week-end of April 3, 4, 5, 1998.

All but one of Hamilton's teams are registered Senior Recreational
with the OWHA. The team from McMaster University is registered
Senior House League.

One highlight of our league, some say its best feature, is our
all-female crew of referees. At our tournament, too, the officials
are all women.

Players come from a wide range of hockey backgrounds. Many had never
worn hockey skates before joining this league. A few had never skated
at all. Others played when they were young but hadn't held a hockey
stick for years. a few were once stars on Canada's World Championship
team. The lineups include mothers, a grandmother or two, nurses,
postal workers, teachers, factory workers, police officers, a
veterinarian and a minister. They are united by their love of hockey
and enjoyment of the social side of playing on a team.

The league started in 94-95 with four teams. In the second season,
95-96, we had eight teams plus a waiting list. So last year, we
increased our program to twelve teams. In 97-98 we are prepared to
handle sixteen squads if we get enough players.

The fee to play is $210, dated and received by September 16 or
earlier, or four cheques for $58 each dated September 15, October 15,
November 15, and December 15, payable to Hamilton Women's Hockey
League.

For more information and a registration form, leave your name,
address, and phone number with Barb Near at 905-387-4157, Cheryl
Durham at 905-575-9584, Bev Mallory, 905-664-6049 or 705-687-8528, or
through e-mail to email@hidden.

If you are a McMaster student and you want to play for McMaster's
team, call Jennifer Neilson at 519-941-3486 until August 31, and
905-524-1894 after classes start.

     Thanks!

     Louise

To add to Dorene's post...

The collegiate division has been divided into two parts this year...
"College Varsity" and "University Club Program" (as titled in the
brochure). And there are still spots left in the club division. the entry
fee for the club program is the same as the women's/girls' ($425 US). Hope
to see you there!

OK. Now is the time to put your web where your mouth is. You say that
there is not enough exposure, you say that you'd like to see more high
profile coverage. Well, e-mail CBS and CBC at email@hidden
or email@hidden and demand, ask, etc, whatever and tell them how you'd
like coverage of Lake Placid. I'm not sure who has the TV rights, and I
can tell you personally that because TSN had them for the Women's Worlds
in April and we were at their mercy...Hopefully, one of these stations
has the right and as "the Public" we should have SOME input on what we'd
like to see. I argued that girls watch tv, girls see role models, what
better reinforcement to them than to watch women's hockey at its best? I
also argued that Nike and Louisville are promoting female role models
and there in itself is high-bucks advertising. Just give us some equal
time.

Good question. Probably the youngest would be someone like Tara Mounsey or
Hayley Wickenheiser, who are around 17. Most of the Americans come out of
college programs and are at least 18.

Are you kidding? I love watching the girls game!!! Though I likely
wouldn't be doing so if my daughter didn't play, it wouldn't be possible
to keep it a secret forever! I think if they are exposed, alot of men
will become fans!

I've already sent cbs/cbc a note!

Angela Ruggiero (a Californian, by the way, despite the fact that her
family recently moved to Michigan, where her home town is now listed)
is about to start her Senior year of High School. I'm pretty sure
she's the youngest on team USA, and was 16 when she was named to the
team, has probably turned 17 by now. I believe Hayley Wickenheiser is
a year older. She was listed as 18 years old in the 97 WWC program.

I also remember that when the Pacific Rim tournament was held in San
Jose (1995), some of the Japanese players were as young as 13.
