I've heard that Rutgers has a women's team - does anyone have a point

I gotta stick up for Chuq. I'm not with AOL and I get none of these
alleged spams.

OK...I apologize to everyone and put a curse on the AOL gods. I guess it
isn't just the list...seemed strange that other people (including my
daughter) on this list were getting the same thing I was. I know other
people on AOL who aren't getting the messages, so there must me some other
connection.

Again, I apologize for sending an e-mail that wasn't properly researched. It
will never happen again!!!

I'm not getting anything even remotely similar to "how to pickup women"
videos. I have aol, I seem to get all other women-in-hokcey mail. Should I
feel left out?

They aren't. You can go look at the archives. I'm not getting it, and
it's not passing through this server.

Everyone who's complained to me about this so far, I believe, is on
AOL. And AOL has a continuing hassle with members being spammed. All it
takes is putting up your name in the member's directory, because there
are people constantly going through that to get account names to
junkmail.

Heck, I have an AOL account, which I almost never use and which is
subscribed to nothign, and *it* gets spam mail. And it's mentioned
almost nowhere.

This is an issue to take to the AOL postmasters, folks. It's not us. To
make it clear, our subscription lists are available to *nobody*, so if
it doesn't go through the mail list, it doesn't come from us. You can
check the headers to see where it came from.

And this system is as spam-proof as I've been able to make it. You
don't want to know how much spam really *is* aimed at these mail lists
that doesn't get through, because I've got it all blocked out already.
Occasionally someone succeeds, but it's real, real rare, and if they
do, I go stomp on it until it does, and then close the loophole.

Subject: Video Tape Preference and Tryout Anxiety
Message-ID:

Hi all.

This message is basically for all college coaches, and anyone else on this
list who might be in the know about this topic.

I am doing some revisions to my University/College Information package and
I was wondering when players are asked to send in video tapes to coaches,
what format do coaches generally prefer.

1> A tape from a full-length game of the player in action against a tough
opponent.

2> A tape lasting between three to six minutes in length and incorporating
maybe fiteen to twenty-five individual clips. The player could then
include a script to accompany the video for example:

Script 1: My uniform number on this videotape is 88 and there are 25 clips
on it. Clip #1: Myself on a penalty shot against Team Washington. The
goaltender that I am facing made the Junior National Camp at Lake Placid
last summer.

Script 2: Clip #2 Here is me 1 on 1 against a defenceman (#55) who is now
playing for the Harvard Crimson.

etc. etc. etc.

I would think a lot of coaches would prefer option #2 since it would
obviously require less time on their part to review the video, but then
again, coaches would probably get a better read on a player in option 1.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Also, there's a really good article on tryout anxiety at:
http://www.bcaha.org/anxiety.html
As tryouts are just around the corner, I thought it would be appropriate.

Alan.

AOLers, go to the Members drop-down menu, pick My AOL, go to PREFERENCES
(from there, not from the Members menu), then choose Marketing Preferences,
then follow the instructions. I get virtually no spam.

And this is list-related if it's a problem perceived to be coming from the
list. It's not like we're jammed up with hockey mail in August. :-)

I agree with Chuq that it is comming from some place other than this

Show me a header in the mail that shows it coming from this list.

you're getting it because the entire universe is getting that stuff.
Honest. It has nothing to do with the list. I'll be happy for you to
prove me wrong, but trust me, I spend a lot more time fighting this
stuff than most folks on the list realize -- because I'm quite good at
keeping it off the list.

And none of it came through our list server. You're welcome to check
the archives and see for yourself. They're unedited.

(who personally gets an average of three copies of most spam sent via
common bulk mail programs... So please, I'm *very* *very* aware of how
much spam is out there, but I've put off de-spamming my personal
mailbox to get the new server on-line and make sure the list spamguards
are working right instead....I only stretch so far...)

Furthermore (and I'm sorry to keep boring non-AOLers with this stuff), if you
get spam from AOL, you should make a practice of forwarding it to the address
, where they can try to trace it to add to their list of blocked
servers. If tosspam mailbox is full, try , then etc
until you locate one that works. Sometimes on the weekend they are all full,
so either save the mail as new until Monday or just cut your losses and
delete it.

Anyone on AOL who wants help with some of these things I suggested, email me
PRIVATELY!!! at
