I have a used Cooper Reactor that I like. Perhaps "used" is the key word.
Breaking in any glove is not fun. Next time I hope to buy some female
equipment.

Does anyone know of any women's hockey teams in Illinois. I am from
Springfield, IL, and am trying to start a women's hockey team. We are going
to be a very diverse team as ages go. We would like to watch, or play
another women's team, but can't seem to find any around central Illinois. If
anyone could help me out with this, I would really appreciate it. The teams
do not necessarily have to be located in Central Illinois, anywhere in the
state would be fine, or the St. Louis area.
Also, if you could provide me with any information that would help us start
out, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Trina

Shannon Perkins asked about goalie catch gloves:
I started with a new Cooper but it didn't fit my hand well and took a long time
to break in. I then bought a used Heaton 3000M. It was already broken in and
it was an okay glove but again I had trouble that it didn't fit my hand very
well and had a tendency to try and rotate. Two years ago I got a Forrester
Renagade, brand new. It fits great and there seemed to be very little breaking
in time. I've played in men's college (club) games with it and it gave me as
much protection as the Heaton so I think it is a pro level glove.
I hope this helps :)

I prefer to use Vaughn gloves. They break in very quickly and the hand
in mine is somewhat smaller than most goalie gloves. I do think I am
going to have to have my next glove custom made for me because my hand is
so small. I think the glove I am using now is a Vaughn 3500 (I can't
really remember and it is at home right now, I can check on it when I go
home this weekend though). I haven't tried any of the women's goalie
equipment so I don't know what it is like.

Hi Trina,
Good luck with your new team! I know it can be pretty hard to get
started, especially with getting ice time.
I haven't been in contact since last summer, but I do know that there
should be a B and a C level team in Chicago called the Chicago Ice.
They're a good group, and I'm sure they wouldn't mind having some more
competition.
One person you may want to try is Cindy Fujii at 312-282-2528. I also
have the numbers for some of the coaches: Larry Wisniewski
(312-775-4381) and George Moore (847-998-1670). I hope one of these
numbers works for you.
I've been pretty lucky to find a good group in Denver (I just moved here
recently). By the way, for those of you interested in some roller
hockey, there's a women's drop-in at the Bladium (in Aurora) from 5:30 to
7pm for the next few weeks on Wednesdays.

I used to play against a team based out of the Chicago area, Team
Illinois (?). They were a midget team. There may be some other teams
in the area, too.

I was wondering whether anyone is playing in NHL Breakout this year in
Chicago. I would love to play, but I don't really know enough women to
get a team together. It's great fun! It's outdoor roller hockey on the
Chicago lakefront with nice sportcourt rinks and there's pretty good
competition.
Any takers?
